PSA: A duck is not more important than fire safety

So fvcking what - a duck made it's nest next to the exit for a fire escape that also happens to get used as the primary exit from the basement (because, for political reasons, the people in the basement can't have a key to LEAVE the basement via the elevator)

Obstructing the fire exit with caution tape and posting signs saying not to use it is probably not a good idea. And sending the JANITOR to tell the people most affected by it that they can't continue doing business because a duck built a nest next to the damned door is really fvcking pussy. And I don't think the fire marshall would enjoy such shenanigans, either (in fact, he didn't sound amused at all on the phone)

We had over 50 violations last "annual" inspection. The owner paid them off, and they haven't been back in 3 years.

Not that I'm exactly proud of this, or even condone either side of the transaction ...

He was by last year. 6 violations. He came by again last week. 7 completely different violations. He came by late this afternoon, in a fire truck, totally pissed off, sweaty, and smelling like he just came out of a house fire. Twelve violations and an "everyone out of the building until we've removed that crap, and I looked at your sprinkler inspection logs and they haven't been updated since 1992. You have 1 week to find the missing inspection records before I fine you for those."

Bob the Fire Duck is still chillin' in his corner. I fully expect all the stupid bullshit to be back in place when I go back tommorrow. And I'll call again.
