The ti cards this gen are awful. Sub10% performance increases and ridiculous price increases. Particularly the 3080ti.

Who else is expecting 3080 restocks to become mysteriously non existent, and 3080ti to be what starts getting the bulk of restocks?

Gtx 1650 class of cards are almost useless for mining. who cares though, they're still 3x the MSRP. they price gouge because they can.

In my country the shortage is pretty much over yet prices don't go down.

My reference to "murder simulators" wasn't in reference to the "heydeys" of gaming, but relative to current PC gaming.

PG gaming USED to be great. We had things like SimCity and Lemmings, etc.

Now it all just seems like FPS and games with lootboxes targeting children.

Anyways, that's one reason that I'm not much of a (PC) Gamer anymore.

The normal MSRP is $599 if and only if it's a Founder's Edition card. MSRP is currently $799-$999 for the majority of stock released yesterday (6/10). Given the minor performance upgrade from a 3070, I'd say MSRP has effectively doubled for 3070 class performance. AMD cards are selling for similar MSRP doublings as well. Meanwhile, no sub-3060 levels cards are being released, so if you want to upgrade at all, you'd looking at $400-$1400 IF (big if) you can find a card to buy in the first place.

Yes, the milsim jingoistic shooter porn genre is there for sure in the AAA space, but there has never been a better or more bountiful time for PC gamers to find something new in the genre they love.

Except for RTS games. That genre is ****ing dead man.

So shooting people in PC gaming in the 1990s wasn't murder simulation but it is in the 2020s? Not following. Sounds like the same garbage we heard out of congress when they wanted to censor games in the 90s. The lootbox critique is absolutely fair but you can't tell me violent fps weren't an enormous part of 1990s PC gaming, much less other very violent games like Fallout, Diablo, and the like. FPS seemed like a bigger part of PC gaming then than it is now.

PC gaming would be fine now if gpu prices weren't so ridiculous. It was awesome when I built my last system in 2014 that cost twice what a PS4 did (Xeon E3-1231v3 + GTX 970) but ran games at twice the framerate for the entire console gen. It has only started sucking this last 7-8 months when a PS5 or Series X equivalent PC would cost you nearly 4x what the console would.

Is there much top notch indie material on Steam you can't get on Switch though too? IDK, I really like playing 2D games like Monster Boy, Celeste, Guacamelee, or Dead Cells handheld.

Age of Empires 2 spoiled me for RTS. Never have found another I liked nearly as much.

Still playing SC2. It’s only dead if you let it die! Tens of thousands of players on at any given time.

That said, I can’t believe they ended active support for it. It’s not like they stopped selling all the skins, etc. There has to be a development teams worth of revenue there.

I guess it’s not Fortnite.

I have to be honest, I have always felt more than $500 for a video card was absolutely absurd.
Now I am starting to see value in it. Person who bought a 1080 at $600 five(?) years ago and still having a very competent 1080 card must feel nice.

Wish I had traded up to a 1080Ti when the 2000 series was released (they dropped to ~$500), wouldn't be whining about getting a new card just yet.
My 1070 isn't enough for some new titles.

Yeah, I saw a refurb 1080ti at micro center 2016 (or so) for a few hundred and I almost bought it, I just didn’t need it at the time.
Today I wish I had bought it.

It's absolutely nuts to me, but I'm seriously pondering spending $500 on a used RX570, which was in the $150-170 range new a few years ago. So that's probably just as crazy. The problem is there's no end in sight here. For all I know that 570RX that's $500 might still be the same price in a year.

The indie games will also run on just about any video card today. I think at this point almost every great game from the past has been modernized/reimagined in some form. Even with RTSs, people still play the old ones and many of them have fairly active communities.

At least in classic Doom and Quake, there were no people to shoot. Only demons/monsters and zombies. With the exception of some Nazis in the Doom 2 secret levels.
