bleh, suit advice.

haven't worn one on a regular basis since graduating high school, outside of weddings/funerals.

I try to take every opportunity to wear a sport coat and tie.

after being forced to every day for 4 years of private school, I try my hardest not to.

usual work dress for me is a casual button-down and jeans/khakis (used to do the whole cedar hanger thing, but they ended up taking a ridiculous amount of space inside my closet... downsized to wire hangers to fit more in) with boots or black sneakers. hoodie/t-shirt when I'm feeling lazy.

"Don’t over-wash your clothes. Jeans and sweaters don’t need to be washed after every use, and suits will last longer if you avoid dry cleaning after every wear (the chemicals are harsh and can ruin the fabric).

Perfect, that plays right into my lazy bachelor ways!

The way to make suits last forever in my experience is to wear it once and never bother again.

Some of my clothes I've had for almost a decade now. The goal shouldn't be to have them looking immaculate years on end; the goal is to not care about how many frays and holes your clothes may have.

Why would you want them to last for that long anyway?

Do you think that suit you bought in 1980 still looks good? It doesn't.

Dryers kill clothes...hang dry what you want to keep longterm.

+1

I've gotten into the habit of throwing any clothes I care about in the dryer for like 20 minutes and then hanging them up.

towels, socks, underwear, and stuff all go into the dryer till they're hot and dry, though.

I put my expensive clothing through another spin cycle in the washer to get the extra water out then I hang dry on a mobile rack and have a fan pointed directly up at the clothes. I have 2 fans so I make sure not to do another load of laundry until the 1st is dry.

I also don't buy sweaters because hanging them flat takes up too much room.

This list must be intended for women. A list for men of how to make clothes last forever would consist of a single item; "Don't lose them."

My wife does my laundry. She always hang dries my dress shirts/slacks etc. Only underwear etc. get dried in the dryer.

Without saying what you do for a living, you are probably a barista at Star Bucks

I manage backups for a webhosting company

other than the guys in Sales/PM who have to deal with clients face-to-face on a regular basis, it's a pretty casual dress code across the company.
