PS4/XB1 controller trade-in deal

Gamestop is offering $35 credit for an Xbox One or PS4 controller when you trade it in between now and October 25. Just in time for the Halo 5 themed controllers. My White PS4 controller is getting pretty worn so I may use this deal to get a new one without dropping $65. May also trade my Titanfall XB1 controller for one of the Halo ones. Only because I want the new bumpers and 3.5mm port.

Thanks for the heads up. My XB1 controller flexes badly and I wonder if a new one would be more solid. I also have a PS4 controller with the sticking bumper buttons.

I actually want a new controller. I don't know if I want to trade my old one in though. I was going to dedicate it to PC. I may end up trading it in anyway.

Normally the original xb1 controllers without the 3.5mm port get $20 credit and ps4 controllers get slightly more at $27.50. So trading in old xb1 controllers gets you pretty good value.

hmmm i might jump on this. i've had 2 xb1 controllers since launch but never played xb1 2 player other than killer instinct, where i used my joystick for that and my buddy used the controller anyways.

Parents with two kids and not a lot of money for gaming. $65 or $70 for a controller is nuts to me.

Of course, Best Buy's frequently got that deal going where if you buy a console, you get $20 off of a controller, making the second one, in that case, $40 new.

I'll need to find out if EBgames in Canada honors this, I have a spare XB1 controller I don't use and could use the credit for another game.

That's a little more reasonable. I just think paying more for a controller than a game is crazy.

Yeah, Best Buy has a lot more freedom than I thought. I was there buying a new dryer for the house, and I mentioned to the guy I was thinking about getting an XB1. He told me if I bought the dryer and the XB1, he would give me 10% off both, a free second controller, and 10% off a game. I was pretty surprised. They technically didn't have to tell me anything and I probably still would have bought it all.

Yeah I'd never pay full price for a controller. $40 is my price point which you can get the ps4 controllers for if you're patient.

I am really hoping for a $40 Xbox One controller on Black Friday. Any day now we should get the wireless PC dongle for it from MS.

Last November I got a blue PS4 controller for $35, too bad it stopped working after a while but pulled the internals out of it and put internals from another working controller in the blue shell, I loves me the blue shell. Also got the white one too, hope I can get the 20yr anniversery grey one for cheap soon too.

Only applies when you're trading it in for another controller, not games
Oh OK, well I got $27 for mine, put it towards for another game.

Ehh, I can see that mentality, but I don't really agree. A game, I'll play it for a month and dump it off. A controller, it's meant to last several years. It's pretty rare that a game last more than 2 years in my rotation (and that is basically limited to Halo). given that games are copy-pasted data onto a cheap piece of plastic, while each controller requires the full set of materials, I think it's reasonable to have the controllers at a similar price.

That said, $70 on the Halo 5 controllers is a clear brand-grab. The Forza 6 controller is only $65, as I think the Titanfall one was (which I have).

They were $40 last Black Friday. I regret not getting the Advanced Warfare one, it looks pretty cool.

It's already up for pre-order: http://www.gamestop.com/pc/accessories/xbox-one-wireless-pc-adapter/125488

Only $25, which is shocking (the controllers went up $10 this generation, and the Play & Charge went up $5, so surprised this isn't, like, $40.). Has a release date of 10/27.

Dell had the 20th anniversary one for $49 last week which I jumped on as I had $25 GC from a previous preorder. I recommend checking out Dell for preorders since you get a $25 GC for some titles (right now Fallout 4, Star Wars Battlefront, COD Black Ops 3, Halo 5). They have the black PS4 controller on sale for $45 so it's a great deal if you're into preordering titles as after GC the controller is $20.

I'll stick with GCU, where you get $12 off, a $10 cert (which is more flexible than Dell credit), and you're able to pick up the game in-store sooner. Oh, and don't forget reward points with Best Buy. Those add up to more rewards. Still, I find it kind of funny that Dell does this to an extent that they're sort of a top-tier gaming retailer, at least for major launches, haha.

Dell > GameStop

Nice, it'll probably be $40 CDN no doubt. Less than a year ago the XB1 controller was $59.99, DS4 controller was $64.99, now XB1 controller is $69.99 and now DS4 controller is $74.99, the mini jack to 3.5mm audio jack adapter was $24.99, now $29.99. With the crap Canadian dollar, it's hard to actually want to buy some of these stuff right now.

Gotta get a group of folks in Canada to fund a smuggling operation or something, haha.

If you buy a lot of games each year, paying for Best Buy's GCU is better. However for someone like me who only preorders a handful of games, Dell is a better option. You wouldn't think it but they actually sell quite a bit of electronics from HDTVs to Astro headsets. They pricematch too. So I don't mind having their GCs
