PS4 slim vs OG?

Is there any downside to the Slim over the OG PS4?
I honestly only play 1 or 2 games (99% of the use is for MLB The Show)
Storage space isn't much of a concern either. I just don't want to run into overheating problems, or something I'm not aware of...

PS4 Slim uses less power since it's on 16nm lithography vs OG PS4's 28nm. The Slim is also supposed to be quieter. The only game I have ever heard my PS4 Slim on, other than when the disc is spinning, is God of War. Gaming performance is the same.

There are some under-the-hood improvements as well. The Slim now supports 5GHz Wifi, which is generally faster than the 2.4GHz wireless band of the original console, provided you have a router that can take advantage of it. The Slim also supports Bluetooth 4.0, which is more power-efficient and offers better wireless audio performance. Another new addition that the Slim features is USB 3.1 support, which is up to two times as fast as the original's 3.0 ports.

The PS4 Slim is also a little more power-efficient overall. Whereas the original PS4 is rated to consume 250-watts, the Slim features a 165-watt thermal design power. Its more power-efficient design allows it to run a bit cooler and quieter, too.

If the Slim does have one drawback over the original, it’s the removal of the SPDIF port, which will impact soundbars that require an optical connection.

Don't know if you are a graphics whore or not or if MLB the Show is a graphics powerhouse either, but may want to research if there are any improvements with the PS4 Pro in that specific game.

Watching Soto grab his balls in 4k may be worth it alone.

It's not a powerhouse at all. That's why I'm not concerned with "getting the best" for it. I do know that people with a Pro actually play The Show in lower res as there is apparently some lag and when playing online its a noticeable hindrance. I suck at the game, so I can't have anything making me suck even more. I ended up finding a slim for $150 shipped so that's the route I went.

That's a hell of a price. If you have a gaming PC you won't have any need to upgrade to PS5 to keep playing the series since it's going multiplatform for either 2021 or 2022.

It all depends on how cross-platform the play is etc. I like playing from my couch too and my PC is in another room at a standard desk. So, we'll see about the PS5 and The Show '21
 
I can't exactly argue the logic when I know, for a fact, that I'd likely do the same if there was launch day Gran Turismo...

I've thought about upgrading from my OG PS4 but it's got so many good gaming hours under its belt. Shame to take that all away... and yes, 80% of those hours are GT: Sport
