PS4 for my son, set-up / misc tips?

I picked up a PS4 slim for rainman jr. who's 9. I bought it so we can game together when he's at his mom's. Needless to say it will be primary located with the ex. I plan on opening it up just to do updates so it's ready to use once he receives it. It got me thinking about the whole primary user settings and game sharing etc. It's likely that i'll never see it again after I hand it to him so i'd like it setup properly beforehand. I recall one of my clan mates mentioning ways to share games between 2 linked systems....?

Anyways, anyone care to mention any set-up tips or experiences with setting up a console for someone else...

If you activate it as the primary PS4 for the account you can do the following. So any account created on that console can access all the content without being locked out.

  • Anyone who uses your primary PS4™ system can use applications you purchase from PlayStation®Store.
  • Anyone who uses your primary PS4™ system can enjoy the benefits of your PlayStation®Plus subscription.
  • Your PS4™ system can automatically download content you pre-ordered, or content you've purchased on

    (PlayStation®App).
  • You can connect to your PS4™ system via the Internet using Remote Play on another device.
  • Anyone who uses your primary PS4™ system can use the themes that you purchase from PlayStation®Store.

That's about it. You can have 2 systems and have one as the primary for another account and have access to all the games and such even when they aren't logged into your account. This isn't really game sharing and makes it so that whichever console is not the primary cannot do any of the things mentioned above.

Basically you deactivate your PS4 as the primary then log in another PS4 and activate it as primary and then install all your games there. Log out and then log into the other account on the console and you can still play all the games. It just makes it so that your console cannot do certain things because it is no longer your primary PS4.

If you won't be able to physically get to it again, upgrade the drive to 2TB before giving it to him. You'll have a lot less storage worries then.
