PS4 controller issues

I've read somewhere it only really affected early models, but I've no proof. I've owned mine since November and the controllers still work and look like new. Its also not terribly hard to replace the sticks if necessary.

I have two controllers. One is the launch controller, one is a newer one from the white special edition. The rubber is definitely different. My launch one is slick to the touch like all the texture and grip is worn down. The other one is not even after extended usage. I never had sticky buttons but my newer controller has squeaky triggers for whatever that's worth.

I've had mine since launch and it's still like new. I use it pretty regularly. How many hours are people logging for it to be wearing out already?!

Better question would be what are you people using your PS4 controllers for that causes so much, uh, friction that that the rubber wears out and the buttons get, *ahem*, so sticky...

Both of the controllers I got at launch had the sticky buttons not more than a week in. Made some games nearly impossible to play if they relied on the triggers. I ended up buying a new controller and returning an earlier model and that one has worked so much better.

I noticed the rubber difference as well. My one from the console purchase in November (GTA bundle) has somewhat slick feeling sticks, then I purchased a new controller (white) early this year and the sticks have a grippier texture to them. I certainly like the white one a bit better as it holds up better when they get somewhat oily. Haven't had any issues with them though.

My PS4 box had manufacturing dates of roughly april 2014 and no issues with rubber wear after about 150 hours of gaming so far. I'm actually more concerned about the battery life. Have they improved it any? I'm averaging 5 hours before I get the battery low warning.

Of course PS3 owners are spoiled with battery life. I probably only charged my PS3 controller 40-50 full cycles over the 9 years I won it. My PS4 after 8 months of ownership already has over half that in full cycles.
