PS4 50% faster than XBox One

Will the processing superiority of the PS4 help it win the console war?

To answer the OP's question, no. The winner of the next console war will be whoever dangles the most money to third parties. Power won't matter if Xbone is the lead dev platform and PS4 games are sloppy ports.

Not gonna believe any of these claims until the system is out and WE SEE it. I remember allll the claims about how the ps3 would be awesome for any game maker who properly coded for it. Never happened. It is actually kinda funny at how similar in performance the 2 are considering how different their architectures are.

Only reason why I voted "YES" is because we have two consoles which are designed with the same architecture, i.e. they both are comprised of Jaguar cores and are tied with GCN graphics. Therefore, we more or less have an apples-to-apples comparison between the two consoles.

With that said, the hardware advantage the PS4 has over the XBO is only one factor in determining which will be more successful. The question was if the hardware superiority help the PS4 win the console war - that is, if we are to assume the PS4 wins the war, then the true answer is currently unknown as the PS4 could win through a variety of reasons, one of which is potentially the hardware advantage. If we look at it more broadly, then I'll say yes, the hardware advantage will help. Whether or not the PS4 wins the war is another issue entirely.

Of course.

I have never had a PS before and both xboxes.

I want a PS4 for the very reason it is a lot more powerful and there are tons of other like me (read any gaming forum).

YOU HAVE NOTHING! No one has played it, every single demo has been on a pc, the DEV KIT is a PC!

Quit spreading rumours and hearsay on equipment that has not been tested.

I think another thing that ll help PS4 win is the bad launch the Xbox had.
Then theres the issue of PS4 launching earlier on, in Asian and Europe.

The price differnce too..... pay more for less powerfull hardware.
Thats gonna go word of mouth, and more people will get a PS4 I believe.

Wow, are you in the future?

Anyhow, the PS4 launches a week before the X1 in NA but a week after in Europe (and possibly elsewhere). Bottom line is that a week isn't going to help or hurt either.

On topic, I don't believe the PS4 is "50% faster", this has been said by what, two mysterious developers? The proof will be in the pudding, as 50% would be noticeably different and I'm betting we don't see it.

The only reason the PS4 will win is that it's $100 cheaper. I feel like Sony has the better exclusives that gamers want but Microsoft has better exclusives that the general public want. Just my opinion.

The PS3 has what 50% more GPU power, and Microsoft supposedly locked down 1/3 of the One's GPU for compute (I'd guess that gets tossed and left up to the developers like it is on the PS4), so its 8 Compute Units against potentially 18 in the PS4. Or if they equal the graphics power, then the PS4 will have more than double the compute ability. Plus the PS4's GDDR5 should help with graphics.

The worrying thing is that the One apparently might not be able to render 1080p at even 30fps for games pushing much graphical fidelity. Personally I'd prefer them to just aim for 720p and good framerates and try to use the compute for extra physics, AI, audio, and other gameplay features.

Sony is supposedly working on a 3D headset like the Oculus Rift (sounds like they basically used the Rift to find out the right way to do it since their current commercial one is lackluster), so they might use the extra GPU power to push 3D output for that. That would actually make for an appealing use.

Not a big difference. It's just like me swapping from a 7850 to a 7950 on my PC, roughly a 50% gain and allowed me to go from high to ultra settings @ 1080p. From comfortable viewing distance it's pretty hard to pick up the difference between high and ultra unless your actually looking for them. With the console efficiently it's gunna be pretty close to a 7850 vs 7950 comparison. The majority of console gamers won't notice the difference sitting 10' from a 42-55" tv
