Wow, the FUD is amazing here, especially otispunkmeyer who is regurgitating fanboy half-truths. Back to Beyond3D where they are least know something about the consoles and don't sound like the Official X-box forums.

what I find fun is how much hating there is against a company, who products YOU CHOOSE TO BUY.

sony has no gun to anyones head saying 'BUY THE PS3',

or Buy any of there 'formats'

when did a propreity format become the devil.

hmm nintendo used cratrigdes until the game cube.
sega used them until the dreamcast, then used giga-disks.
the game boy? oh its a cartridge to. same for the other gameboys.
gamecube? what the heck disk is that?

so because sony tries to use UMD, or sony memory sticks, there evil?

come on, people, don't be so narrow sigthed, stupid, and blinded by an unkown hatered/fear of sony.

So a company tries to get a new format out - Blu-ray. they think its good, and push it. No one is making you buy it.

plus it really wasn't Until SONY, used a STANDARD disk in the PS1, (The cd) where we started using the standard disks.

And when the PS2 came out, the dvd war was still going on. Sure it was dieing, but Divx (the dvd- format disk competition,) was still around.

And for the Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, I'm sorry but talk about a overhyped product. When now most tvs are being made hi-def, for a product to not support it is stupid. And gee I love the fact that i'll be able to pay 10 bucks to play Mario again, and beat it in 3 hours, gee thats a great value!. ohhh.

once again

NO ONE IS MAKING YOU BUY ANYTHING.

and I own a xbox 360, so far its been a dull ride.

Wasn't that speed 100% unnecessary for games? Ah well, it seems the Inquirer has a habit of going after $ony.

Someone said stuff about the PS3 gpu being outdated. Consoles last five years. PC GPUs are upgraded to a new gen every year. When the PS@ or X-box was released, did it have the latest n' greates gpu?

I'm not pickin' sides here. I think both the 360 and the PS3 will be awesome. It's just that people goin' after a single product hearing a small tid here and another bid there really annoys me. $ony give great products at above average prices. So do M$. Nintedo aregiving a weaker product at a much less price. So how is a company better than the others? Each have there own strengths and weaknesses. In the end, it'll be about the games. If one console takes 100$ more one time and keeps throwing great games, that's okay. If a console costs 20$ and can't give a good game, that's crap.

It's funny how much is being said about the "current gen" console war when two haven't even come out yet. [I mean, the PS2, X-box and Cube are past gen, aren't they?]

You really have to be blind, deaf and living in cave to not see that Sony's got no future. Name something they did right in last few years.

I don't really care about the whole console thing anymore. I'm just getting a PS3 and and Wii (I might pick up a 360 if it gets some more good games) and those will be the last console I'll ever get. The console community is one of the worse communities ever created. I'd explain more about that but I gotta get to my next class ;P

Do yourself a favor and look closely at the TV selection next time you shop. "Most" are NOT High Definition, the cheap entry-level models are crap (ie not true 1080 support).

Sounds like a desperate Sony fanboy trying to stop the slide with Nintendo preparing a coup!

why do people hate things that cost xxx, maybe because they only make xx?

So I should have porsche because there new car costs like 900,000 dollars, but I can only afford 20,000? makes logical sense to me.

as to the guy that says most tvs right now aren't hd tvs.

well you kind of right.

only 41% sold right now are hdtvs,
but 51% of units shipped to retail stores are hdtvs.

And answer me this, are tvs going towards HD, or away from it?

so then why is a console being made for tvs of yesterday, and not tommorow?

And this last point.

The people buying the hdtvs are the people that are the people that would buy a ps3 (those with money!)

I dont think you understand the anti sony argument.

People expect propduct x with features y,z,a,b and c. They end up getting product x with features a and b.

Example.

Sony's first HDD baded DAp was labeled as a "Digital Audio Player"
Many people bought it as a mp3 player like all other "Digital Audio Players".

Alas it only could play Sony's ATRAC and WAV. It forced everyone that bought it to a) convert and rerip all their music or b) return it to the store.

Example II

Sony's PS2 was as quoted by a high levle manager "going to be more powerful than any pc for 5 years."

Come 2006, compare any middle of the line pc against the best graphics the ps2 can produce.

Furthermore it was billed as a dvd player.

Then people tried to actually watch dvds but had to spring $30 more jsut for a remote since the interface was so convulted.

Then there is the all too common dis read error. I gave up no sony after my 3rd ps2 annd I didnt even play it that much.

Example III

Sony PSP

It was labeled as the ultimate in personal entertainment, Not just a gaming machine.

Then the games came out. Honestly, I've played a lot of psp games and there is nothing that holds my attention longer than 15 minutes.

And then sony screwes up some more by stopping the ability to run homebrew, taking away all the good classics people puit on there liek super mario brothers and sonic.

Then have you even tried to surf the web on a psp? That muight be the most broken piece of software I've ever used.

I could go on....

Microsoft and Nintendo do make mistakes but they do not proclaim every product as the second coming and overhype it beyond everyones wildest expectations just to dissapoint the customers. Also for the most part, they release quality products for the money. Windows XP cost me $99 and ts served me for 5 years. My Nintendo Entertainment System has served me for 18 years. I cant say the same of the sony VCR I tossed a few years ago, the 3 ps2s i've gone through or the PSP I've had those expriences with.

Furthermore, when Microsoft makes something proprietary, it quickly becomes an industry standard. WMAs can be played on 99% of all digital audio players. Docs can be opened in basically all operating systems. The Windows platform negated the need to include 850 drivers for every possible piece of hardware in the effort for every piece of software yuo run to create its own operating system. For the most part, MS actually benefits us the ned users. Sony, not so much. Wheres Betamax now? How bout those songs I bought on Sony Connect in Atrac format? Why cant the memory stick fit in my HP digital camera? Wheres the promise of the (admittedly worthless) cell revolutionizing my life?

Sony=overpriced, low quality and dashed expectations.

Okay, I admit I DO buy Sony stuff - they make gadgets that are marketable and fill a need. I've bought TV's, CD players, SACD players (LOL, where's that format going?!?), a PS2 (sold) and PSP. The PSP, while with faults, kicks butt when I'm waiting at Kohl's for the wife and kids to get done shopping. It's precluded me in buying an iPod or portable DVD player, since it plays vids/music just fine. And it's better than a GameBoy SP (but more expensive!).

What I take exception to is Sony's insistence on "creating" a new format for something that already exists (yep, Betamax, ATRAC, Memory Sticks, UMD, etc.). Now it's Blu-Ray, creating another format war for the next-gen DVD (against HD-DVD) - that's another discussion altogether.

I think HD is the way to go. Unfortunately, the reason why no one's buying HDTV's is that there isn't anything to watch that's worth watching in HD (well, with the exception that football season's here :D ). The software isn't there to prod the hardware (hmmmm... sound familiar? Akin to consoles). Now the XBOX 360 and PS3 in hi-def? Looks damn nice... maybe something to prod the market with? Playing GRAW and DOA4 in hi-def is definitely an eyeopener compared to my now sold orig XBOX. Again, while I focus primarily on PC games (BF2, GRAW, and Oblivion), a lot can be said for the unified component/driver structure of the console: in this case, GRAW loads in a fraction of the time that GRAW takes to. (But Oblivion loads rather quickly on the PC, though - anyone know why? It's the most visually appealing game I've played in awhile.

Enough ranting - I might by a PS3, but it ain't gonna be in the near future...

Now it is 485Mhz cpu and 165Mhz gpu.

Yes, sepcs do change, though in the xbox's case, the 600/300 (though I could have sworn it was originally supposed to have an 800mhz cpu) config was when they were going with a duron and a gigapixel graphics chip. After they switched to intel and nvidia, it became 733/250 and then downclocked to 233mhz on the gpu.

As an owner of a 360 I can say without hesitation it is the poorest console released in a very, very long time. It has no strengths and a lengthy lists of weaknesses. Saying it is garbage would be extremely unfair to landfills the world over.

Personally I'd call it fairly good hardware with poor games.

I meant keeping up with them. They've gotten too expensive. And while the consoles get more powerful, the games keep getting worse. I'm drawing the line at this generation.

I'm willing to put down bets.

I bet $50 to each and every person who wants to take me on.
I bet the PS3 outsells the 360 over the period of the next 5 years.

Those who think the PS3 or Sony for that matter are finished are seriously fooling themselves.
Sony DOMINATE the gaming market with an iron vice grip.

In fact, the 360 hardly sells at all in Japan.
One of the major gaming populaces in the world, pivotal for any console to make serious market impact.
Sony has Japan and pretty much the rest of the world stoked with the Playstation.

In the UK most stores have stopped taking pre-orders because the PS3 is pretty much already sold out, on pre-orders alone.

He has a point, what's the use in buying a supposed "next gen" console if it can't even work in high definition? SDTV looks like ****** and graphical improvements don't show very well at that resolution so the Wii will just be another glorified cube + funky controllers.

With the amount of cash, as a company, Sony is sitting on - they're not going to go under. Even small or moderate sized companies can nix money-losing projects and still have plenty of cash for continued operation.

What's more of a danger is the loss of Sony's dominant foothold in the gaming community. Granted, the XBOX 360 ain't selling well in Japan, and that Sony has an established gaming trademark, but any more missteps by Sony, say a possible release date slide to the right - can be disastrous. Pile this on a $600 price tag, and you may have some conversion happening right quick, especially if the product doesn't live up to the hype.

Markets can shift - ask Nintendo when Sony took it away awhile back. Who knows? Maybe Nintendo will regain it with the Wii :Q - I know what I'd buy my kids this Xmas, more so if this thing comes in well below $250US as promised. Oh yes - it'll also give me an excuse not to get him an HDTV, since the Wii ain't capable of it. :)

wow can they change things so fast into development? sounds dangerous!!!! what will developers do if we we play games that are now laggy because they were expecting slightly faster....

we'll see if it is true, this is the inquirer after all.

Btw PS3 FTW. Ps2 I loved, Xbox was fun occasionally but I got attracted to the Ps2. Mine is still chugging, with no errors, and plays my DVDs perfectly (controller works great for me as a remote). PSP...eeeh not very interested.

Xbox360...lets see if it gets REAL games. I don't care about eye cady, else I wouldn't watch my friend play old NES games

That's some pretty scathing criticism of the 360. What exactly makes it so bad?

Personally I'd call it fairly good hardware with poor games.

Maybe after a die shrink and some revisions to fix the serious reliability issues with the hardware. I don't know anyone IRL who has had a 360 for more then a few months who hasn't had a major hardware failure. The GPU may have some decent potential, but if they can't keep them running for a year then it isn't what I would consider good hardware.

What exactly makes it so bad?

Games, or rather severe lack of. Without a remotely decent library of titles and minimal BC support there just isn't much to play on the 360. It is also very noisy and very fragile. Pretty much, if you have a PC that can play Oblivion there isn't a compelling reason to own a 360 closing in on a year on the market. Not even the PS2 was this bad this far into its lifecycle. I am not big into the picking a particular side in the console wars, I own every viable platform for every generation. I enjoyed my XBox enormously last gen- but the original XBox had a far stronger lineup of games the day it launched then the 360 does today. That is sad.

Just Cause << play the game and its got feeling GTA/Farcry/
Lost Planet << The game was another exclusive by capcom and the game looks damn awesome :! demo is great
Halo 3
Forza 2 << Forza one was much better than GT3 , it had better physic , AI and Online play , GT3 old had craplaods of content and better graphic
Lost odyssey << creator of crono cross/FF7
Blue dragon << creator of crono cross/ff7
Mass effect << check the tariler and you will know why this game is going to be killer app
Darkness << from creator of Riddick escape from butcher bay which is one of my FPS , a game looks awesome and its developer 2nd project
Alan Wake << Trailer tells it all
Bioshock << Another awesome game , shown at e3 running on XBOX 360 and also won alot of game of the show award at e3 2006.
Microsoft also got 12 month exclusive for Pro evo soccer 7 and FIFA 07 and it will generate craploads of sales in Europe market
GTA 4 << not a exclusive PS3 anymore
Burnout 5 << best arcade
Gears of War << the game looks awesome and is more than just a 3rd person shooter

I just think you haven't check xbox 360 game ;! its got more exciting title :! I will end up buying PS3 for metal gear solid 4 and final fantasy 12 but at the same time i don't see it worth $600 as gaming machine. Sony is loosing developer exclusive support fast and killer app number are going down and only thing survives is the hype which manages to create a allusion that PS3 has great games and it is a great console which it really is not.

Now drop all games that can't be found on PC or PS3, what are you left with? Dead Rising? Most likely will be ported to PS3, Halo 3? Halo is a good game and all but not nearly the game of the century people claim it is, in any case Marathon was better than Halo, RPG games you have in the PS3 and in spades and of better quality than that weird RPG studio from an ex squeenix, Gran Turismo 5 might turn out better than Forza 2 and if not, its still a damn good driving simulator, what then? Gears of War? Come on, I have yet to see a console FPS that rivals the quality of a PC FPS, sure Halo might be the best Xbox game, but there are like 5 FPS on my PC's hardrive that are much better, where's your killer app now? FPS rely on mouse control (playing on gamepads with auto-aim is pathetic) and top-end graphics and we all know how consoles compare to PCs as far as graphics go. Sure a few Xbox exclusives like Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden or RARE games (like Conker) are worth it.

Now the PS3 offers a bunch of exclusive CONSOLE oriented titles, seriously, the Xbox360 focus on FPSs is wrong, I've played a lot of console FPS and while they can be very fun (like TimeSplitters 2) I've had way more fun with shooters on the PC, maybe if MS was including a mouse and keyboard with the X360, but FPS on gamepads is just not as fun as on a mouse, sure there's autoaim but wheres the fun in that? Might as well drop the controller altogether and let the game play itself.

Of course thats my opinion, maybe some people love FPS on gamepads and thats fine, but the games on PS3 interest me more, Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Jak, Ratchet, Katamari, etc, etc, thats why I currently own a Gaming PC and a PS3 and the list of games I can't get that are on Xbox are VERY limited, in fact I can list them: Ninja Gaiden, Conker Live & Reloaded, Dead Or Alive 4 and there were a few more but I can't remember right now.

So basically my reason for not getting a 360 even though I'm disliking the PS3 every day more and more is because if I get a 360 what will I play? Dead Rising? thats about the only 360 game that has kept my interest, the rest are either multiplatform games or games that are not too fun to begin with (all I can think of is Halo 3 and one game is not enough not to mention Halo is not THAT good).

To be honest this also brings up another issue I have with the 360, Halo, the origins of Halo go back as far as 1994 when Bungie first released Marathon for the Macintosh, Halo is OBVIOUSLY the succesor to Marathon (in fact Masterchief is eerily similar to Marathon's main character and the Marathon logo can be found SEVERAL times throughout the game), even if its not officially a sequel, Marathon was, hands down, one of the best games I've ever played, EVER, they were also pretty darn advanced for their time (compare Marathon to Doom and you'll see what I'm talking about), they were the pioneer of multiplayer FPS and the multiplayer in Marathon was addictive, now my point is, Halo was originally going to be developed for the Macintosh and then ported to PC but Microsoft bought them and consolified the game, Halo could have been the best game ever (I know Marathon was my favorite computer game of the 90's, or at least one of the best for me), instead, Microsoft made it an okay console game.

Yeah, okay here ends my long rant, i just had a lot of things to say.

we'll see if it is true, this is the inquirer after all.

Dead Rising << Check the review and its really awesome game and they only thing that kept it from getting high score was the worst Save system

What does PS3 have :?

Metal gear solid
Final Fanatasy 12

Last i heard that Devil May Cry 4 would be PS3 exclusive for 6months :?

Also if you have played Metal gear solid , the game play , the graphic and the ai are pretty crap ... the only reason that game gets alot of attention, because of its story line. Stop being an idoit :! PS3 has lost of of exclusive deals.

Sounds like either a Sony-angry writer or an 360 preferrer (I won't say fanboy, because that's too extreme) wrote this article.

Don't forget Assassin's Creed. :Q I really hope it comes to the 360 (again, I'm not going to buy a PS3 for the cost of my right leg immediately - so I'm hoping it ain't a launch release).

I think the games on the 360 are fine with a few notable outstanding titles - they really need some good stuff, but it looks like it's coming down the pike (*drool* Halo 3).

Don't forget - XBL is arguably the better online solution. A lot of games are much different played online (as we all know). Too bad Oblivion isn't multiplayer (not MMORPG, but like Diablo II/Baldur's Gate). :(

Actually even Assasins Creed is coming out on PC at the same time. Wait for the announcement next week.
