Actually MS has stated numerous times that there is no limitation to having connect work in conjunction with an input device. Originally Fable 3 was going to do this but, lack of time?? A developer at anytime can create an input peripheral (shaped like a gun) if they want to or have you use the controller with kinect?

With wii & ps3 you just don't have an option to NOT use the controller... you are limited.

what happened to "you ARE the controller"?

So people were misled that they would never need other controllers and the $150 peripheral was the base?

No... just stating what the MS execs have said. Every game you see coming out is kinect only "you are the controller". It's a cool new tech that MS wants to display. However, even internal MS studios were supposed to be implementing aspects of kinect witht the controller. If a developer can develop a game that will use the game pad / kinect... I suppose they could use other types of input devices.

I think 90% of kinect will be kinect only games. I can see kinect being used with a controller with a Fable 4?

I think it still is the primary push. Fable 3 was going to have kinect features with the controller. We may not know for certain.. my guess is MS wanted to only have kinect only titles at release to differentiate from Nintendo / Move. I honestly don't think there is a technical reason why kinect / controller could not be used in conjunction.

Sooooo it's been almost two months. Anything out for the Move worth owning yet?*

*He asked sarcastically.

I expect to be able to ask the same question in the near future about the Kinect.

I would give either system at least 6 months before you really start looking for a bunch of games.

though my daughter tried eyepet and loves it. i think im going to snag that for her for Christmas.

i might pick myself up the hunting game that comes with the rifle.

i'm really waiting for a good golf/shooting sim.

^^^ Interesting. It's definitely a successful device.

Amazon has pretty much given up on trying to take in a lot more orders for the Move controller at this time. The device is always out of stock, and its sub retailers are gouging customers by charging up to $20 above the normal retail price. Amazon's link now has this message for people who want one:
Note on Availability
This item is in high demand and supplies are limited. Its availability will fluctuate, and we cannot guarantee that we will receive additional quantities in a timely manner. For Move Controllers shipped and sold by Amazon.com, we are limiting orders, when available, to one Move Controller per customer. We will not charge your credit card until we ship the product. This product may be available from other retailers on Amazon.com, and is covered by our A2Z buying guarantee.

I think Sony is trying to focus more on getting stuff to retail stores first for the holiday shoppers. Doesn't make any sense IMO as lots of people shop online anyway, so it really shouldn't affect their sales. Regardless... glad I got mine, but the games that keep coming out that I look forward to aren't getting good reviews. Next year's Tiger Woods should be better though as it'll be designed from the start with move capability instead of tacked on later.

PLAYSTATION®MOVE MOTION CONTROLLER SALES REACH

OVER 4.1 MILLION UNITS WORLDWIDE

Remarkable Milestone Achieved in Just 2 Months since Its Release in September

Tokyo, November 30, 2010 - Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that the sales of PlayStation®Move motion controller for the PlayStation®3 (PS3®) computer entertainment system reached over 4.1 million units worldwide*1. The milestone was reached in just 2 months since its release in September for North America, Europe/PAL territories and Asia, and 1 month since the release in October for Japan. The number not only shows clear success of the launch of the new motion sensing controller but also indicates positive momentum going in to the holiday season and to the year 2011.

PlayStation Move motion controller is used in combination with the PlayStation®Eye camera*2 to detect the precise movement, angle, and absolute position in 3D space of the user, thereby allowing users to intuitively play as if they are within the game. Delivering the most realistic and immersive experience, PlayStation Move not only captures user's motion but also player's image itself to offer new augmented reality experiences in select games.

PlayStation Move offers more than 25 supported/dedicated titles for Europe/PAL territories up to date with vast line-up of software titles from all genres and all types of audiences. Some of the successful titles include Sports Champions, Start the Party, EyePet Move Edition, MAG, SingStar Dance and more. Upcoming PlayStation Move titles include the platform-defining franchises like Killzone 3 and LittleBigPlanet 2 that will further establish PlayStation Move as the must have motion experience for casual and hard-core gamers alike.

More than 41.6 million PS3 system has been sold globally*3 and despite entering its 5th year since launch, the system is yet to record another year of success. PS3, equipped with sophisticated processing units as well as future proof cutting-edge technologies, unfolded its potential, this year, with the introduction of PlayStation Move and stereoscopic 3D capabilities. SCEI will further continue to deliver strong value to the platform and will accelerate the growth of the platform by vigorously enhancing the entertainment experience only possible on the PlayStation® platform.

*1 Number as of November 2010. Cumulative number since its release date, September 15 for Europe/PAL territories and Asian countries/regions, September 19 for North America and October 21 for Japan. The number does not include sales of stand-alone PlayStation®Eye camera or stand-alone PlayStation®Move navigation controller.

*2 Users will need to use the PlayStation Eye camera to enjoy PlayStation Move motion controller on PS3®.

*3 Number as of September 2010.

4.1 million is pretty impressive, if they're still shipping to stores, then obviously the ones in stores are moving. I rarely see the standalone Move controller anywhere, although I usually see the $100 controller/camera/game bundle and the Move system bundles.

My favorite thing with the Move so far is the archery in Sports Champions. Playing it with 2 Move controllers adds a lot to the feeling that you're actually notching an arrow and firing. I would pay money for a more fleshed out version of that game alone.

I hate them both. A lot. A LOT. But what a dumb statement, man :p. The Move launched over a month and a half before the Kinect. I would hope it would have sold more units.

Honestly though, I really wished neither sold a single damn thing and bombed so hard it gave the creators cancer.

Units shipped and units sold are two different things. Sony shipped 2.5 units, MS sold 2.5 units. Time will tell tho, its not even December yet.

Try reading through the thread, then comment. We've long discussed the shipped issue and it obviously isn't an issue. The Move continues to sell well, places are constantly out of stock and you have gougers charging a 40% markup in some cases. Sony's up to 4.1 million now after two months with that initial 2.5 million units long gone. Catch up with the rest of us, why don't you.

Some places have them, a lot of places don't. I didn't see any at the local Target this weekend, but maybe Black Friday wiped them out.

I just checked the online stock at a couple of sites right now. Amazon continues to be sold out of the wand (affiliated retailers sell it with a +50% mark-up). They also now are sold out of the starter Move bundle (affiliated retailers sell it for up to +100% mark up). Best Buy.com is back ordered for the Move wand, the starter bundle and the Navigation Controller.

It's a huge, huge hit. Whatever the shipment total was, all of it continues to go fast.

They're both selling really well initially apparently, which bodes well for a boatload of minigame collections and Wii shovelware with slightly updated texturework making it over to the 360 and PS3 over the next couple of years.

I'm excited, are you excited?

Damn, I should have bought more starter sets when BB had them. I had trouble finding the standalone controller, but when I bought the set BB had a shitload of them.

Indeed. I'm excited! It looks like developers have an excuse to add Move support to their software when appropriate. The good thing is that they don't have to make games that only control with the Move so it has a good chance at becoming a near-standard option (again, when appropriate - I don't want to play Street Fighter V with motion controls).

Just an FYI, I posted it in Hot Deals, but you can get all of the PS3 Move launch titles at Costco for $20 until 12/6. They're marked at 35.79, but there's a $16 MFR instant rebate on all of them. I picked up Eyepet, Sports Champions (for a friend) and Start the Party and Kung Fu Rider (for myself) this morning, came to right at $90 for all 4. Pretty good deal and great gift fodder.
