As much as I dislike everything SCEA has been doing lately, this one registers pretty low on my "Stupid Sony Sh1t" radar.

So? My PS2 didn't come with a S-video or component cables.

Of course, I'm not getting a PS3 anyway.

Honestly, if you can afford a $600 PS3 and a $1000-2000 TV, why are you gonna give Sony hell for making you pay an extra $10 for an HDMI cable?

yes, although it is no big deal it is pretty stupid. It seems they are really trying to push this to the tech savy. Not every customer is gonna go out and by an hdmi cable. Some people will have a very nice hdtv and have it hooked up vga, then plug in another console and cant see the difference...

for $600 it comes with composite cables. Not even s-video or component.

Sure one can argue against it, but while this might earn them some extra revenue, it sends mixed messages in terms of offering a premium system that still needs accessories REQUIRED to use the system in a basic fashion.

Sorry, but composite is no longer basic to the demographic that Sony is targetting.

Alas, people will probably usign it with composite all over the place:(

Considering that people who have HDTVs are in the minority by far, I think this makes sense.

Well they prob are trying to cut costs wherever they can, so they don't end up with a $7-800 system. So they ship the system with what they must so you can plug it in and start playing...and then let you take it from there.

My 360 didn't have the VGA cable I needed, that was $30. Assuming it's a standard HDMI cable and not proprietary crap I'm happy.

Funny how the Sony haters were whining before that pushing the HD features was a stupid idea since not many people have HDTVs.

If that rant was true, then almost no one needs a HDMI cable, right?

Why should Sony lose an extra $20-30 million shipping cables that won't be used?

I fail to see the newsworthyness of this (even after now reading it on like 10 different sites)...you can get a quality HDMI cable on the cheap...the majority of people buying a PS3 don't need one so why include it?
