Looked at the site but not the video.
I don't understand the market for this. Is it so you can use it when you're out of town? In that case, wouldn't you generally be staying somewhere where you could hook it up to a decent sized television? Is it for gaming on the go? Then what will you use as power?

I would much rather have a ds/psp or a laptop. The handhelds are cheaper and designed to be portable, rather than adapted to be portable. A laptop would be just as portable (I'd argue more) as this ps3, and would have greater utility. A basic laptop doesn't cost too much, although it can add up if you want one with great gaming capability.

I would rather have something that lets you output the display from a psp or ds to a tv/computer screen. Actually, I'm sure something like that exists already.

I suppose I'm just rambling. Long story short, I don't see a market for this.

Have you never seen screens for a console? They ran rampant for the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube.

This is an HD screen for the PS3 when you are traveling or somewhere without access to a television. I'd take an 11" HD monitor over a 20" SDTV any day. You can play this in the car if you hook it up to an adapter and you could play it when you are traveling without decent equipment to display the PS3. For instance, in the summer sometimes I go to places that barely have internet access: therefore, no fancy TVs and stuff, and this would be perfect for that.

I don't have much of a console history; until the ps3 the last (and only) console I owned was a gameboy. So I'm not really familiar with screens. I still think it would be more advantageous to simply output video to a laptop. Sure a laptop will cost more, but you can get a larger screen and all the other benefits of a laptop. As for playing in the car, I think a ps3 is a tad too bulky to play on a road trip. Unless you have a place to hold it, how could you secure it and a controller at the same time? I wouldn't want to have one sitting on my lap. Besides, a psp or ds would be much more suitable for such a situation.

But if it has been done before apparently there is a market for it. I just think there are better alternatives.

I don't know to be honest, I just saw it referenced on 2ch and looked what was going on.

I don't use my PS3 enough to be hardcore, read as only 3 games and owned 3 years. I think its the game-mobility aspect is targeted for the kids or people who want to do lan parties, since games like MW2 has the lan function.

Otherwise I guess it's gaming on the get go while out in metro life, storing the ps3 in your pack.. Seems kind of reasonable for some of the japan culture, but probably not feasible for mainstream here yet.

I don't know of very many laptops that have a video in.

I can't name any laptop that I've ever come in contact with (albeit not that many) that have video in without an adapter. Plus if you already have a PS3, why would you buy a laptop and not just a screen? You can't play inFAMOUS or Heavy Rain on a laptop though, and (depending) can't play Blu-Rays and such. I remember having my Gamecube hooked up in the car (and although I got sick) it played fine. A PSP or DS would once again cost money and you might not want one. I'd much rather play good games on my PS3 with an 11" screen then play some PSP stuff (albeit some very good games) on a 5" screen.

Ah, didn't know that's not a common feature. If adapters are indeed available I assume it would be much cheaper though.

I suppose I'm not one to speak, but I think that many who own a ps3 would also own a laptop. Even if you don't own a laptop, I'm saying if you spend an extra $100-200 you can get a laptop instead of the screen. Once again I'm assuming you can use an adapter (I suppose that's an additional cost though); but with the laptop you can work or play pc games in addition to playing ps3 games (using video output).

And while a psp or ds would indeed cost money, you could get one of each for the cost of this screen. If you want to factor in the cost of new games then you could only afford one, though. The game library is a good point, though I assume that each system has its own gems.
Though it sounds like you managed just fine, I don't think the form factor of the ps3 lends itself well to mobile gaming.

Adapters that display HD? No.
Um...what kind of logic is that? IF you own a PS3 you own a laptop? ... I don't even know how to respond to that quite honestly. And that's an extra $200 I would have to spend on something that couldn't play my PS3 on the go or in HD for that matter. What if I don't work on the PC or play PC games? And so? I traded my PS2 for my PSP because I no longer really played my PS2. Guess what? I never play my PSP.
It's all in the market of people that want these things. A good suggestion of the audience was the ones who want to play LAN or the guys in Japan who walk around and such. This would also be pretty good for a college campus I think (sort of tying into said statements above). $300 can buy me a 24" monitor that displays 1080p, but I can't exactly throw that in my bag and run.

lol at all the haters

Just because few of us on a tech forum see a need, all of a sudden a device is absolutely worthless and has no reason to exist.

There is a reason these devices exist, and continue to exist. Someone, somewhere, is buying them.
Remember all the ones that were sold for the PS2? That started the craze I think, as companies started branching out and made them for the GameCube iirc, PSone, Xbox, etc etc.
They must be purchased by someone or no one would continue to make them for new consoles.

I'm just making a guess. In my mind the population of ps3 owners and laptop owners overlaps quite a bit. Obviously I don't have numbers to back it up, it's just my perceived reality.
I don't have anything against this portable screen, I'm just surprised there's a market for it. My circumstances make it an unattractive option, but clearly it holds a value to others. For what it's worth, the lan example makes sense to me.

Who's hating? As I mentioned, I'm just surprised that there is a market for this. I guess part of that is due to some misconceptions about alternative options.
And you've completely lost me with your second statement.

Terzo I think you left out a decent portion of console owners imo.
There's the kids who are underage, parents bought them a console (probably decemt chunk)
There's also the people who don't have modern pc's or use their ps3 solely for net browsing. As hard as this one is to believe, it exists. Saw fspecific game's orum posters mention pretty often "I'm typing 4rm controller, cuse me gram nazi'

Finally let's not forget the environment of japan and modernized asia, those kids rarely are to go straight home after school. Young adults hang out all day without the need for a personal vehicle. I'm guessing this is the primary audience.
