------------------------------------- Quote----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SONY MIGHT BE having a few problems with its forthcoming Playstation 3, which an industry deep throat claims is full of bugs and will not be ready for its March release date.

A deep throat for the online gaming mag Kotaku says that the beast has too many bugs and the games just are not ready yet.

The deep throat has a bit of credibility for coming out with some deep on market intelligence earlier in the year, so there might be something in what he says. The bloke claims that he had hands on experience with a prototype PS3 and it left much to be desired for a product that is supposed to hit the shops in a few months.

Kotaku claims that Sony is also allegedly having trouble with the PS3 graphics engine. Another insider claims you only have to look at the only footage of Playstation 3 code in motion to see the problems. He claimed that Sony miscalculated the added complexity of the cell infrastructure in its graphics engine and this was having adverse effects on development.

Either way, chances are the PS3 will either come out late with the games and most of its problems solved, or be out on time and a tad buggy. µ

I think they are right and if you think about Sony has overdone themselves by making to many promises ! i still would be happy with decent console but with all the pointless extra and the crap of how killzone, mg4 and other stupid trailer they showed was just plain stupid because they will not be able to deliver that type of graphic.

The cost of produing ps3 with all the features they have included would be crazy at 2006. "in built wifi , blu-ray , 90nm g70 core , 65nm cell 3.2Ghz 7 sep , bluetooth , 3 gigabit rj45 port + plus all the extra like wireless controll ". mass production of blu-ray drive cost about $200 per drive alone. so no way i am seeing sony going to launch this year in mass numbers.

What do think guys :?

Well, unlike Microsoft and the Xbox360, Sony isn't pressed to release its product before the holiday season. If it's not ready, they'll delay it. Everyone saw what a mess came of the 360's lockups and overheating fun. Just my $.02.

i never had a problem with my Xbox 360 and nor did the people i knew that bought one. The only thing that killed my Xbox 360 was my dog. But people did have heat problem;! They were unlucky... at least it wasn't mass disk error of Xbox 1 1.0 had. Damn those Thompson drives. my ps2 had disk error and my ps2 slime line laser burnt out ;( .

like any first-run product, it will have issues (although lockups and overheating shouldn't be issues, i agree. it should all be manufacturing flaws that create defective units).

i still think PS3 is gonna have a hard time though because it's hard to code for. anand's article about the CPU's for 360 and PS3 got pulled, but basically it's a b!tch to code for both, but 360 is much easier due to 3 general purpose cores.

This will just like the Dreamcast.

Hype and Publicity of the Upcoming PS2 (3) will kill the Dreamcast (CrapBox360)

Doesn't even matter if its delayed.

Sony will sell on it's name alone, but to call the 360 crap?

360 isn't crap...but currently, its not very good (no great games).

Anyways, the 360 has its own share of problems, yet it still made its release date like normal. Besides, it was never official that the ps3 would be out in March...Summer or Fall is a more likely release time for it.

I think people are stretching the "problems" that the ps3 has. Like someone saying the cell is too complex (or more than they thought) and its hard to develop for...I've heard developers saying that they like the PS3...directly from their mouths. On forums.
I think someone here isn't quite telling the truth.

I have always prefered the PS over XBOX or Nintendo. Now after seeing the 360 in action and listening to all the hype about the PS3/Revolution I beleive I'm a Microsoft convert.. Everything Sony has "rumored" to be including is impossible unless the unit's going to cost ~$800.. Microsoft stepped up and delivered the 360 months before Sony and has delivered on everything I can remember them hyping..

IIRC when the PS2 was being developed it was rumored to do everything but order a pizza for you and in the end it was just another console..

Just my opinion...

You cant hear microsoft hyping? rofl! Microsoft and Sony both hyped as much as they could from each convention to the next, its just not as much talked about as the ps3 because the 360 doesnt have as many "WOW" factors. Im not saying the ps3 will really contain everything it has advertised but blue-ray, capablility to display 1080p, and the cell chip are pretty hawt.

I don't think it will be late AND full of bugs, probably just late(r) than assumed, with most of the bugs by that time ironed out.
Soon (hopefully) there might be some good cames for the 360 (and PC) like Oblivion (by March hopefully, and probably before the PS3 is out).

This isn't surprising at all. Numerous developers, Americans, Japanese, and Europeans alike, have stated that Xbox 360 is much more developer friendly and cheaper to program compared to PS3. The reason, of course, is due to complexity of the PS3 hardware structure.

I don't own an Xbox nor an Xbox 360, but I think the new Xbox will do well. Its sales sucked in Japan, but I think that will change. A lot of Japanese developers favor Xbox 360 currently because they just don't have the resources required to program for PS3. Only big guns like Capcom, Konami, Square Enix are able to. There are a lot of smaller Japanese companies that make great games and cult classics and they will rely on Xbox 360 in the long run.

My 2 cents.

Of course MS hyped the 360. They just didn't claim everything under the sun... In fact it wasn't up till the very end they said XBOX 1 Games would work on the 360 which was the main reason I didn't think I would ever buy one..

If Sony CAN deliver the beast they have been promising I will eat my words but I'm not to worried.. It's typical and smart business, claim your product is way better then existing products so poeple hold off on buying the current ones. In the end when all 3 consoles are released I'm pretty sure MS will be on top...

yes it is standard practice...and kind of a must. What do you want sony to do..let MS just hype their system and sony just say "yeah we have a system coming out?" Thats not gonna happen.

I think Sony will come out ontop in the end....although MS will catch up fromthe last round. Sony has Japan on lock down still no matter what you say...and there are a lot of people in the US that love their PS2s...

on a side note....if the revolution costs 200..i am getting it.

The 360 didn't have any more technical problems than the Xbox, PS2, or PS1 had. All of them had issues.

And the quantity of defective units is really not unusual... Just that you hear a lot of noise from those with overheating issue, and the quickly spreading gossip, and don't hear a word from the overwhelming majority who have no problems at all.

I know about a couple of dozen people (both online and in the real world) who have a 360, and I don't know any one of them who has had a problem. If the "lockups and overheating fun" were truly prevelant, then the statistics say that at least one of those ~25 people would be having problems.

both systems will be good, the games are really the deciding factor. MGS4 is reason enough for me to go with the PS3

A few issues with this article-

First up- who said a March launch date? Wasn't Sony. They have commented they are shooting for a spring launch- that season doesn't start until the end of March and runs through the end of June.

Second up- which rev PS3 prototype was the person looking at? There are several different versions circulating amongst developers ATM- and only a very small handful of the Cell I/O RSX kits are out there at all- they went out in early December(which gives them about six months from when those units were produced until the end of the timeframe they say the system will launch).

The three most expensive elements of the PS3 you have listed are Cell, RSX and the BRD. All of those are being fabbed/built by Sony in their own fabs/factories. I would wager heavily that the cost estimates we have seen to date are simply ignorance spewed out of the mouth of either MS PR tools or analysts who are also currently saying the XB360 is costing between $600-$800 for MS to produce. Of course Sony and MS will keep mum on the topic(unless they are trying to use it to convince you not to wait) as they want their customers to believe they are getting the highest value possible.

I'm not sure why you would wait to compare the two.

First off, I wouldn't buy a console when it comes out because the games are bound to suck and the hardware will be buggy. Wait a few months or until the first price drop.

Second, you know the hardware, at least the GPU, the graphics won't differ at all. And at the launch of PS3, you won't be able to tell if the Cell processor will be any good anyway. First, the thing is complicated to program, I'm not calling anyone a liar, but parallel programming isn't easy. It won't be using it's full capabilities for a while after launch. If you wait that long to find out it's capabilities, you'll miss all the fun of the 360.

What you should base your decision on: You know the types of franchises both companies own. If you can't live without them, then I guess you have to buy the console they'll only be released on. The 360 doesn't exclusively own many franchises, ex. Dead or Alive, Halo. But Sony has quite a few in their grasp. From a gamer standpoint, it would be stupid to assume that the 360 won't have any good games. If the games truly sucked, then the console wouldn't sell. I've played with all sorts of consoles and I tell you each console has their games.

Another decision maker: Features that cater to you. The 360 allows you to personalize your console to match you. I've seen some pretty cool sh|t that you can disguise your 360 as. The PS3 has a vast array of gadgets and crap everywhere. It even doubles as a george forman grille, I've seen it. :p The 360 has excellent, tested online gaming.

You have to realise, though, that many new features do not become popular and aren't used. For instance, the PS2 had a keyboard and mouse inputs. But noone put them in for First Person Shooters. Could Sony be hyping PS3 keyboard and mouse inputs then? Maybe they won't be used. ...or maybe they will. Before the PS2 and XBOX, First Person Shooters weren't popular on consoles. Because First Person Shooters are more popular now, the keyboard and mouse might be used. And if that happens, I may actually say goodbye to Computer Gaming. Idk.

To know which features will be used and which won't is a tuff one, however. I'm still amazed at how many USB ports the PS3 has.

The Final Descision maker: Price. That's right, the PS3 may be chargin a hefty premium for all those nice little features that have a possibility of not being used. Instead of paying all that much money, you may get a similarly fun experience with the 360 for 100 bucks less, unless you WANT those PS3 exclusive games.

It's all about the games. As it stands almost none of the big Japanese developers are releasing EXCLUSIVE BRAND NEW TITLES (not rehash or ports) for the 360. The PS3 has Capcom, SquareEnix, Namco etc all in it's corner like always.

The problem with the 360 is one thing the disk size limitation. Notice how madden looks pretty but has almost no extras? That's because the DVD9 is filled with HD quality graphics and 5.1 Dolby sound. There wasn't much room for extras. I've read about some games having to be made on multiple DVDs because the media cannot handle all the HD content as they want to put in. The PS3 will at least have a large media storage solution that is a bit more hack-proof as well.

Man seems like this is the CRASH generation for all the systems. PC has no new games that are inovative, X360 dosent have very many good games, Nintendo is making a very out of style system, and now PS3 might be delayed with problems. Just great...:disgust:

Errr no. The Dreamcast died from a combination of PS2 hype, poor developer support (no EA for starters), and Sega lacking money. The 360 is just as hyped up as the PS3, has great developer support, and a company with deeper pockets than the Marinara Trench that is committed to supporting it.

Not too surprised considering that Sony essentially slapped Nvidia's GPU on top of the Cell processor. Remember how the Cell was supposed to handle all the graphics processing too?
