I've been searching around the net and reading some comparisons, like Major Nelson's from MS and reading peoples comments on that.
Overall, it sounds like the PS3 is out of this world compared to the 360. But then again, when you develop a whole new processor completely for gaming specifically you might be hard to compete with.
Its so wierd, because I was all for the Xbox. I love the Xbox, its the better of the "PS2/Xbox" war if you were to ask me. Its got killer games, although probably not as many as PS2.. but after I got my N64 I refused to buy another 2 player console.
I just see systems as great party machines, and when they make those little adapters that add ports it seems the developers never take them into account because its not a part of the native systems abilities.
So I skipped the PS1 and PS2. Even though I've avoided them (mainly because of the 2 player limit), the PS3 looks like a keeper though to me. Plus the PS1 back catalog (and PS2) is huge. And old games that I enjoy like the fighting game Darkstalkers (for PS1) I will be able to pickup and play on my PS3.
You have your blu-ray for quicker loading times and more space (but more cost per disc and maybe more for the drive, but competition always brings these things down.. I'd rather pay a little more for a more futuristic setup anyway *COUGH* LIKE HAVING MORE THAN TWO CONTROLLER PORTS!), I could go on and on talking about the specs but theres no point. Its technically superior.
I think MS is trying to save some money this time by building a cheaper console and concentrating on games. That might be great and work out.. but Xbox acceptance outside of the USA is pretty poor in comparison to PS consoles. And PS1/2 could go toe to toe with any system on game quantity and quality.
They are both juggernauts, but overall I think in the USA and the world the PS consoles have more street cred. Halo did do more than its fair share to boosting the Xbox though. Seems like that game carries the Xbox and might carry the 360 as well on its shoulders. They need Final Fantasy or something.
Anyway, I consider myself unbiased (I'm still on the N64/computer, no PS2 or Xbox here). But I'm going to buy one of these things and I'm pretty set on the PS3.
I know most techie peeps are unreasonably biased towards one or the other (have some kind of brand alliegiance). I really don't, I buy off what I want for functions (ie. 4 player or more). The games will be great for both (probably).
Calling the games comparison between both consoles a draw is fair at this early stage, so for me the PS3 takes the gold.
Just wondering what you guys think about them.
