PS3 vs 360 games these days

I've had a 360 and just recently got a PS3 about a month ago. Since then, I've only used my 360 to play music. I've played through a few PS3 exclusive games in the past month and have had a great time. Now that I'm looking to play some newer cross-platform titles, I'm wondering which console I should go with. I remember looking at reviews in the past that compared 360 with PS3, and it seemed even without the better online part of it, the 360 always looked better graphics wise.

The games I'm looking at playing(from gamefly) are Red Faction, Resident Evil 5 and Prototype. Anyone have any insight as to which console I should play them on?

Graphically, there's very little difference between systems on multi-platform games. The only real difference is multiplayer. Probably still a little easier to find and connect friends on Live than PSN. If you're playing multiplayer though, you'll ultimately want to choose the system that your friends are playing on.

Buy and play games based on:

1. Which system you own (the biggie)
2. If you own both, then play the games on whichever controller you prefer
2a. Also, if you plan to play online, play the games on whichever online experience you prefer

My main concern is the graphics. I want to play it on whatever system it looks better on. I don't do much online.

They are 95% identical. One might be slightly better than the other in certain games, but they are mostly the same and the difference would probably be negligible, at best.

3rd party games its negligible. I own both and the 1st party games look slightly better on PS3.

The 360 still has way more good games than the PS3. 360 does have the better GPU of the two consoles as well, but they are pretty similar. It's more about how hard the developers work to make a game look good than it is about which console you play it on.

I'd take the 360 on the grounds that it is cheaper, has many more good games, has significantly better online play, and the graphics are just as good or better in most cases.

AFAIConcerned...PS3 was always superior to 360 bc 360's online multiplayer play was exclusively subscription based.
This is unacceptable to me.

Really? $30-40 every 13 months is a problem for you? Even though it means your online experience is on a whole different level from what you get on the PS3? Two things can happen. Either the PS3 online service will remain sub par, or Sony will start making you pay for it eventually as they improve it. Take your pick.

sony should have put a lot of $$ and time into making PSN better instead of wasting it on HOME.

as others have said, multi-console games look virtually identical on both consoles. reviews that say one looks better than the other, they do that pretty much because they HAVE to do that and are nitpicking. any game that you play on both consoles I can pretty much guarantee you will look virtually identical in your eyes.

personally i would get any cross platform game on xbox360 because of the controller and xbox live. achivements are also a nice touch.

the only game i own on both consoles is sf4.

I have both systems as well, and can say that it mostly comes down to which exclusives you want to play.

Lately I've mostly been playing the PS3 for Killzone 2, but I have more games for the 360.

I played RE5 on the 360 for online play - more friends with 360s. I have not played Red Faction, but will be getting Prototype for the 360.

You're one of the few.

I wouldn't say superior to the 360, maybe superior to what your personally looking for. As for the subscription, im also not a fan. I'd rather own 1 more used game a year than pay for a premium online service.

I would just get the games on the system that your friends are playing the game on. If you plan to play multiplayer. I really don't think there is too much of a difference between games on systems nowadays. Some say graphics are better on one vs another but that isn't something I would honestly notice.

Exactly, since Isocene already owns both.

The 360 does look a little better in most cross-platform games, see comparisons at places like GameSpot (Fallout 3 is definitely noticeable), so it's generally the version to buy if you own both consoles and your 360 isn't out for repairs 😉

Personally I would go with the 360 for multiplatform games, but that's because many of my friends have 360s as well. Fun to play online together and swap games every once in a while too. Graphics-wise they're identical. The only way you can tell a difference is if you had still shots of the exact same spot from both consoles from your TV. In motion you'd never notice.

However, there are a couple multiplatform games that perform a little better on the PS3 than the 360. GTAIV is the big one, which suffered from pretty bad texture pop in that wasn't as bad on the PS3. I haven't played or heard about another game like this though.

O rly?
I would like to be educated then. I own both systems, and mostly, my 360 sits heavily unused, except for single player titles such as Ace Combat 6 and Lego Star Wars.

What I expect from online multiplay:
A simple lobby system which allows you and a number of friends to enter into a multiplayer game, either exclusively as a group, or with a similar number of random opponents with ingame voice chat.

I dont need my overall stats, rankings, trophies, and accomplishments saved for me to see.
I dont need prize tournaments, ladders, or other "events."
i dont need exclusive premium "members only" maps, weapons, free demos, themes, wallpapers, or other premium content.

we just want to play the damn game.

Except for NHL09, Madden09, and COD5... ALL of my PS3/360 games are singleplayer.
So yeah... what I need is basic free online multiplayer.
and PS3 delivers.

For now. The problem with Sony's system is that you become beholden to the _publishers_ to maintain upkeep of their game. How many older EA and PS2 games don't have working multiplayer anymore? Practically all of them!

You answered your own question. If all you want is just to play with people, you have it. You can do that on the Wii too though. If you want tons and tons of features, you have to pay for it. If the features don't appeal to you, then that's fine. For people who get something out of leaderboards, achievements, numerous downloads, themes, etc... Xbox Live does a great job of it.

I wanted to get a PS3 cus I'm a Metal Gear Fanboi but everyone I know has an Xbox so I got that. I'd be playing by myself if I got a PS3.
