What a dumb idea.....how owuld you impliment such a thing though? I thought they would only have readable dvd's only. If the dvd is writable, then couldn't you just chnage it yourself?

I cant imagine this working. First of all they'll have to make sure all PS3's are connected to the 'net in order to check the title... also, each game will need to have it's own special ID. How are duplication facilities going to allow for that?

That is a total crock of horse excrement. Nobody in their right mind would buy the PS3 if they did that. This would mean you couldn't take your copy of the game over to a friends house to play without also bringing your PS3 along with you. . .Or what if something goes wrong with your PS3 and you have to have it replaced or something? They'd have to replace all your games as well. Horsesh!t. They will not do this. It would be suicide for the PS3 before even one unit was sold. Don't get your panties all in a knot.

that will never work.

1) it would kill rentals
2) potatial lawsuit over not being able to re-sale a game
3) what if the system breaks and you have to buy a new one? are they going to replace all your games?
4) if true i know i will buy a xbox

can't be true. that would be a death-blow to gaming. There has never and never will be a prohibition against sharing games. This would also kill the game-rental business.

this is some new anti-piracy technology that the press is misinterpreting because they don't know the details.

Okay, what happens when the PS3 goes bad, and gets replaced? Do you have to re-buy all your games?

Just cause Sony put together a patent for this doesn't mean it's going to be implemented in the PS3. Chill for now.

From the article:
While the PS3 hasn't been expressly mentioned in the patent in English or Japanese it would be the obvious place to employ this new technology, regardless of how little gamers will appreciate it.
So it may not even make it into console games.

edit for spelling

there is no way in hell this will be true.

word on the street has it that the PS3 may also be region free. i just can't see sony doing that, because it will hurt US sales if they do so, since japan gets it first.

its probably been said above but sony could not do this for one simple reason. if your ps3 broke and you had to buy a new one all of your games would be useless. hello lawsuits.

I don't think it would hurt sales much, because most of us prefer to play games in english.

Read the fine print in the license agreement for almost any software published in the last 10+ years, and you will find a clause that states that you won't sell the software to someone else.

It seems that Sony is sick and tired of people going against their word, and have decided to enforce it.

I'm not saying its right or anything, just that it should come as no surprise.

EDIT: This would really screw video game rental companies.

Nope, they don't know better.....they are now starting to get sued for their mess up with putting spyware on peoples pcs when they play CDs. (Look up Sony Root Kit)
