PS3 to monitor with HDMI

I can't seem to get my PS3(HDMI) and computer(DVI) connected to the monitor at the same time. They work individually but if I connect both then the PS3 won't display 1080p. It'll do 1080i but not 1080p. Even connected individually, the PS3 says it's displaying 1080p but when I do 1:1 with my monitor, it doesn't fill the whole screen...it fills the same amount as if it were doing 1080i but in the monitor menu it says it's at 1080p.

Anyone know what the problem could be?

Monitor is the BenQ FP241VW.

1080i and 1080p are the exact same SIZE, the only difference is that i is 30 frames per second (with interlacing), and p is 60 frames per second. The reason it does not fit your monitor perfectly is because your monitor is 1920 x 1200 pixel, and 1080 (i or p) is 1920x1080 pixels. Therefore there will be slim black bars on top and bottom.
If for some reason it does fit the whole screen, it is because it stretches and distorts the image. (which is why 1:1 always leaves black bars)

There are black bars on both sides as well as top and bottom when I set it to 1:1 in my monitor. And I'm checking this in just the PS3 menu, not in a game where it might be 720p.
