PS3 to cost around $465?

According a an article published in the May 17th edition of Japan's Mainichi Shimbun, the PlayStation 3 could be one of the most expensive mass-market videogame consoles ever created. Officials from Sony apparently told the newspaper that PlayStation 3s would sell in Japan for "less than 50,000 yen each." That translates to about $465 US dollars.

I hope Sony is not dumb enough to do such a thing. Based on pricing from MS xbox360, Sony would have to follow suit in some sort of way. $300 at launch is my expectation.

I will be surpirised if any of these consoles hit the US with a price worth making a profit on. It will be a loss either way. Anyways, that is the direct japanese price. It would porbably be adjusted for the US later on.

Yeah, Sony isn't stupid enough to sell a console for nearly $500. When it gets released for at most $350, Sony will get heralded for selling it at such a low price.

The price of the PSP in Japan is ~$190 while it is $250 here in the US.

Wasn't there gonna be two models of the PS3?? A basic level and another one with additional bells and whistles?? or was that Xbox 360?

I think that's the xbox that's gonna have 2 different versions. 1 with a hard drive and 1 without.

I think that's the xbox that's gonna have 2 different versions. 1 with a hard drive and 1 without.

No, MS squashed that during the press conference. There's going to be one version with a 20GB swappable hard drive standard.
