Ps3 slim internet connection problems...

Hi all,

I use WEP on my new ps3 slim. I believe I have 3.00 system software. I loaded up the ps3 and connected online and all seemed fine. Then I started to notice that the ps3 was disconnecting frequently from the internet. The internet would crap out while i'l trying to surf sometimes....and more importantly - game demos would CONSTANTLY stall. Its incredibly annoying.

I read that 1-1.5 years ago the PS3 seemed to have problems connecting on WEP/WPA networks, but I haven't seen this issue repeated in the slim (unless I'm not searching well enough!)

Do I need to upgrade to the optional 3.01? I'm going to try to change my security settings to WPA....or even make it open and do a simple mac filter...but I'm going crazy!

edit:

bah humbug. I went to open network with just mac filter and it still is doing this! I don't get it at all :(

Yeah the ps3 is just picky or something. I followed a guide on the psn forums to forward the appropriate ports and stuff. Didn't work. Then I just put it in the dmz and I still have the same problem. I gave up.

My 360 never disconnects. Literally never so I think the ps3 is picky or something.

I used to have this issue with my old router. Apparently there was an issue with uPNP on Linksys routers and the PS3. I turned it off and didn't have any problems.

Bleh did all the ports as well and it didn't work. We now have it hooked up via wire. I have one of those WRT54GL routers, although i never did hack it. Maybe I should now. Atleast the download speeds are MUCCCH faster (we were getting 1.5 Mbps with the wirless, and now we are getting 7Mbps with the ps3 using its 'connection test' tool).

I must say the game demos fucking rock. PS Store rocks in that regard. I want valkryia chronicles lol.

I have my PS3 slim using WPA2 and I don't ever seem to get disconnected, in fact the connection actually seemed better than what I expected.

Does it have this issue when wired to the router? It could just be your router...the PS3 tends to be "picky" with networking (for example, networking speeds are very slow with Comcast and our Motorola modem. We swapped it for a Linksys and it worked extremely well afterward).

At home, I have a router running the Tomato firmware. If you can hack your modem, I'd recommend it. That may solve the issue (unless you find a fix otherwise, though I'd hack the router anyway). At the very most, you'll probably need a new router.

What did it say your signal strength was? I got frequent disconnects with my WRT54G, but I replaced it with a Buffalo router and it works much better now. I would keep it wired if it's convenient, but if you were using wireless I assume wired was not really convenient.

Did you try my recommendation? Turn off uPNP on your router (and your PS3, if you have the option). This was a pretty common issue when I had it a couple years ago.

That is the router I have and I have it wired and in the DMZ and it still drops constantly. I think I'll try that Upnp change.
