PS3 Slim Hard Drive Upgrade

Ok i have a PS3 Slim 250GB and i want to upgrade it to a 640GB for more space. I want to know if its possible to backup game installs as i have a lot of games i downloaded through PS+ that are installed right now and my internet is very slow (6MB/s Dwn) and don't want to re-download them again.

I have a 500GB External HDD formatted to Fat32

iirc that should work. You backup your PS3 HD to the external and then transfer it over to the PS3 HD. I don't remember the details but it is pretty simple from what I remember.

i just swapped mine out with a 1tb drive, it took 6-7 hours to backup , so do this when you go to bed.

when you power it back up, it will ask you to update to the latest firmware, so have that ready on an external drive. (maybe not the latest, but what was on your old drive)

How long did it take to restore and I have to wait to upgrade as the drive I received was DOA

I did this again just yesterday cause I swapped my drive out. It took around 3.5 hours to restore my backup. I backed up a full (minus 2GB) 320GB HDD to a 500GB external then restored that to a 1TB drive.

I know my back up to about 9 hours. Just waiting on my new drive. hope restoring doesn't take to long.

3 hours for me, i don't know why it was faster doing a restore.

I actually got my 500GB and 640GB off of TPU for $50 which was a good deal to me until the 640 arrived DOA. Now i'm waiting for him to send a replacement. Would love a 1TB Though. Both are Western Digital Scorpio Blues

Was the new hard drive DOA? I decided to upgrade mine today and I didn't know that there was a hidden menu to format the new hard drive and install the system update. I was scratching my head for a few minutes until I looked up this youtube video.

The 500GB wasn't but the 640GB was
