PS3 setup questions

i bit and purchased a ps3, in large part just because i'm an electronics junkie. please keep the flaming to a minimum. i just had a few questions regarding the optimal setup w/ what i have. i'm not too familiar w/ hdmi, etc.

Vizio 37" LCD (720p/1080i)
Onkyo HT-S790 receiver/speakers [no hdmi]
PS3 60gb

for the best video/audio overall, would i set it up like this? would there be any issues?

PS3 -> hdmi cable direct to -> Vizio (for video)
PS3 -> optical cable direct to -> Onkyo (for audio)

thanks in advance. suggestions short of purchasing a new tv/receiver are appreciated.

thats a good setup. could you do hdmi to the tv and set the ps3's sound to go through optical? or can sound only go through hdmi when hdmi is used...?

nice! hopefully rumble support should be coming back too (check ATs homepage).

thanks for the input guys.

so is that the OPTIMAL setup for me, considering the equipment i have? thanks!

currently i'm using component cables for video and regular stereo (red/white) cables for audio.

Yes, it is the best setup for you for the best picture and sound. The ALL DIGITAL connections will bring down loss of quality.
