PS3 Red Alert on hold

We've been hearing rumblings about this for a couple of days now, but now Eurogamer has received official word from EA that production on the PlayStation 3 version of Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 has come to a halt. While EA could confirm that the development of the PS3 version had ceased, they could not reveal the reason for the stoppage, nor discuss whether or not this was a temporary decision. Very, very curious indeed.

The move isn't without its benefits, however, as PC and Xbox 360 development is being bolstered by newly freed resources. You can look forward to seeing C&C Red Alert 3 on those platforms this Autumn. We'll keep you in the loop should further developments unfold for the PS3 version.

Was it going to include keyboard/mouse controls? I'd be all over that.

Hopefully, I imagine it would be tricky to play a RTS game with an analog stick.

It's gotten better. Still not as good as KB/M, but better. Halo Wars, Tom Clancy's End War, and C&C Red Alert 3 are all supposed to be improvements over the previous console RTS games like LOTR:BFME2 and Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.

If your friend is an C&C or RTS fan then he shouldn't settle with a mediocre gamepad-controlled console version, tell your friend to upgrade his computer and wait for the PC version.

I don't get why developers keep pushing genres that are simply not suitable for consoles like RTS.

He does'nt have a pc. I have two and we use those to play games. I tried talking him into selling his Ps3 and Xbox and buy a pc, but he thinks they're better than my pc

I agree with you on the other point 100%.........

Untapped market. The first that creates a hit console RTS with a great control scheme will have an impact like Goldeneye or Halo did with console FPSs.

While very true, even to this day, shooters on consoles are still not as versatile (in terms of control and precision) as shooters on PCs.

What's most important, RTS needs EVEN more precision, speed and hotkeys than a shooter (and shooters on console controls still manage to be fun) so unless Nintendo and Sony start pushing keyboard+mouse support on their consoles I don't see myself playing a decent RTS on a console, EVER.

I really want to see developers focusing less on cutting edge technology (it's so pointless) and emulating PCs and instead focusing on games that really work well on consoles. I've always been an early adopter of consoles but this generation a LOT of games are PC-like games so I might as well play them on the PC.

The only reason I'm buying a PS3 is because of Grand Theft Auto IV and Metal Gear Solid 4, now THOSE are games meant for consoles.
