Hey ATOT,
I want to pick up a Bluray player and was thinking of getting a PS3 for my system. I want the PS3 mainly for Blu-ray capabilities and perhaps for some light gaming. I already use my Xbox360 for Netflix, but if the PS3 has a better interface or PQ then that could change.

I currently have my gear in an equipment rack that's in a different room than the display and users. I currently use a IR Harmony Remote and need advice on a IR solution to control the PS3. According to some quick research and reviewing AVS forum, the PS3IR-1000 seems to be the best product even though it's a pricey solution.

Another question, where I should place the PS3 in my equipment rack? Heat from the PS3 is a concern for their is no AC in that room in the summer time.

Thanks ATOT!

$98? Yikes. I'd consider using the $20 Sony bluetooth remote, it's supposed to work through walls and floors.

The lack of IR is pretty much why I don't use my PS3 for anything other than gaming. If you're going to use the PS3 primarily as a BD player, I would just get a BD player.

I have a harmony universal IR remote that controls my reciever, FIOS box, 360 and Projector. I just hate doing the remote control shuffle to operate my equipment.

Yeah, but I'm sure there will be games on the PS3 that are not on the 360 that I might want to play. And, considering the PS3 does Netflix, this will give me options in the future if/ when i get another TV and I want to each console on separate displays.

What are some good alternative to the PS3 as a BD player? I'm looking for something with good IR control, or preferabbly a BD player that could be controlled via http or serial.

Check if your TV has HDMI CEC. It may not be called CEC though.

What is the make & model of the TV?

The PS3 has CEC which they call HDMI control. Which will allow you to control your PS3 with your TV remote. You have to turn on both settings on your TV & PS3.

This is what I use for my PS3. I just pop in a Blu-Ray and use my Harmony on TV mode or TV remote.

You can also use any PS3 remote that comes with an IR USB stick. I'd suggest using CEC feature first.

Any other questions feel free to ask.

Take a look at: http://gear.ign.com/articles/938/938051p1.html to optimize the PS3 Blu-Ray settings.

Right now i have Panasonic Projector. I was planning on using Component to connect the PS3 to my receiver since all my cabling is component and just using Optical for the Audio.

I plan to upgrade my devices with HDMI when i upgrade my receiver since my current Denon doesn't allegedly do audio over HDMI.

Thanks for the link Crow. Will check it out

Vi.... will probably order the logitech unit next week.

Harmony adapter is the way to go. I have a Harmony One remote and it works great with it.

worse case about heat is just buy a cheapo fan that costs 15 bucks and have it blow on it during the summer.... LOL it sounds ghetto but its alot cheaper than running ac ducts etc

i picked up the PS3 tonight from best buy along with the Logitech unit. So far everything is working well. A quick re program of my harmony 360 remote and i was watching a blue-ray a few minutes later.

Of course now, i have to re-arrange my gear in my equipment rack.. oh well.
