PS3 PSN Video Store, seriously, WTF?

Ok, this is freakin' moronic. I can buy/rent SD videos (movies) from the PSN video store on my PS3, but I can't watch them via remote play on my PSP. WTF? Am I missing some step here? What's the deal with this moronic restriction?

I don't think you can remote play videos. You have to transfer to the PSP. At least, that is how I read this

Q: If I Rent a movie can I transfer it to my PSP?

A: Yes, Rental Content in standard definition format that was originally downloaded onto a PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system may be transferred once by the PSN account that purchased the content to one activated PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system during the Authorized Term. Thereafter, the Rental Content will not be available on the original PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, and no subsequent transfer to any other device including a PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system or a PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system is currently permitted. Rental Content in standard definition format that was originally downloaded onto a PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system may be viewable on only one (1) activated PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system during the Authorized Term. Rental Content in high definition format may be viewed on only one (1) activated PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.

This is really retarded. If you are on the road and want to watch a movie, this would be a great option (remote play). This is typical Sony though. I don't know why I expected anything different from them.

Oh and demo game videos work fine over remote play. Just not rented or purchased movies from the Video Store. I guess I'll just buy DVDs and rip them myself and stream them to the PS3 then to the PSP (via remote play). Sony can forget about me buying anymore movies on their Video Store. :|

I read that as only rented movies, not purchased movies. Am i correct?

Nope, both. That's what I thought, so I bought a movie. Sure enough, can't watch that either on my PSP. :|

Thats retarded. I always wonder if its the company's themselves who make sure odd restrictions or the MPAA licensing that requires them to.

Oh, it's retarded alright. No question about that.

Oh no *cries*...better sell my PS3. What a piece of crap.

The movie service just came out...you can't expect it to be perfect and offer everything you want. It's probably just a security/restriction thing they either can't bypass or haven't gotten to yet.

I don't think he was taking it to that level, but I think he has every reason to be annoyed by it though.

Jesus fvcking Christ, here comes the PS3 cheerleader. When I say something bad about the PS3, does it feel like I kicked you in your vagina? You are apparently hypersensitive about your console and need to get over it.

Don't give me this, "the movie service just came out" crap. This really has little to actual do with the video store. The movie is downloaded and stored on my PS3. The ONLY thing keeping it from being streamed to a PSP is the DRM built in that purposely restricts it. Remote Play is just about worthless now, but could have been a great selling point with something as basic as streaming video. Now Sony screwed that up. But the worst part is, I don't think it is an oversight on Sony's part. This seems to have been done intentionally. I'm hoping I'm wrong about this and is fixed in a future firmware update, but I'm not holding my breath. 🙁

this is an MPAA restriction IIRC. Netflix and Unbox have some similar issues.

I figured it was either Sony or the MPAA. Either way, it sucks and can only hurt the Sony Video Store. I can see renting movies, but I'm definitely not buying any more movies. Like I said, I'll just rip them myself and stream it to my PSP.
