ok, I can't figure this out.

I have my PS3 set to upscale video to 1080p but maintain the contents original aspect ratio.

My PS3 is connected to my 1080p plasma via HDMI.

The problem is that there is a slight overscan when displaying SD DVDs. If I set my plasma to Dot-by-dot mode the overscan is still there which leads me to believe the PS3 is slightly overscanning my DVDs (I would guess by about 5%).

Is anyone else experiencing this with their PS3 when connected to an LCD or plasma? You can easily test with DVE or AVIA or any regular DVDs menu by comparing the very left edge of the menu on your display vs. on your computer monitor.

For example, my computer monitor displays 0 overscan on the Shrek DVD but my PS3 cuts off the main menu a bit, it is very slight but noticeable if you are looking for it.

I haven't noticed any overscan on my 5080. My PS3 is also connected via HDMI and upscales to 1080p.

Binister,

I have the same plasma screen as you do - I never realized that the PS3 has an overscan issue with DVDs (probably because I use a standalone Blu-Ray player 99% of the time)
I'll go home and test it out for you and see if I can replicate the same results.

Thanks. The overscan is very very slight, I would guess between 2-5%. I was testing with a regular DVD on my HT setup and on my PC with VLC.

The menus on the PC show a bit more than when played on my HT.

The only time I guess full output is when I disable PS3 upscaling and put the PDP in Dot-by-dot mode.

If the PS3 upscales the DVD I can't get the full menu to show up under any PDP aspect option.

Binister,

Seems like I have the same problem - I only realized the difference after a proper A/B test between my Panasonic Blu Ray player and the PS3. I did a quick check on AVSForums - seems like loads of people are having the same problems - apparently it has to do with the PS3 and isn't something that is fixable.

How the fvck does a PS3 overscan 1080p>1080p? I mean seriously, how the hell do you screw that up?

Edit: Never mind. I just reread your post about overscanning DVDs.

Interesting. It only seems to happen for me when playing back 4:3 content on my Pioneer. Oh well, I can live with it. Thanks!
