Question PS3 OS Restoration

lupi

Lifer
Finally swapped out my original 60gb hard drive. Fairly easy task after spending a couple minutes reading up on it.

The odd thing though, while it took about 12 or so minutes to save and restore save data, the OS restoration on the new hard drive after formatting it was almost instantaneous. Must be some additional memory in side where they store data cause within 30 seconds of the format being complete I'm looking at the dashboard with my user name waiting for me to press and log in.

They sold a PS3 with a 60GB hard disk? I thought the smallest was 80GB. Never owned any "fat" models though.

Regardless, the OS will install itself to any compatible hard drive and then you'll likely have to run some additional updates before you can use any online features. Depending on what you've backed up though, the process could take less time than you would figure. The PS4 is basically the same way.

Yeah i got one that had a 60GB drive from the factory, and its not even the smallest they first had 20GB drives. BR drive in mine bit the dust though so now its pretty much a paperweight.

You know, I kind of remember that now. In 2008 or 2009, whenever the first PS3 slim was introduced, I had been looking at finally grabbing a PS3 because GT5 was going to be coming out (and it didn't until late 2010) and there seemed to be a slew of used 20GB consoles for sale everywhere. I ended up getting the slim console anyway--which at the time offered a massive 120GB (lol) hard drive.

All joking aside that slim PS3 may still be my favorite game console of all time. I ended up buying nearly all of the PS exclusives while I painstakingly waited for GT5.

And now, for the rest of the story....

While the speed at which the unit restored itself was amazing, good god people should be executed for the PSN download speed. Was looking what to play next and decided to finally go through the GoW series, and a slightly majority said chronological order was better. So looked through my disc and noticed I only didn't have what would be the first disc in that order. But no problem, it's only a buck something on PSN. Sure, I'll make my first digital purchase.

That was friday. By Sunday I have it installed on both my units. Absolutely retarded does not begin to properly reference the speed at which the download crawled. For the love of all that is holy, if you are going to have such a craptastic service, at least then let me download to a PC just like I can for updates and then upload it to the unit from there. Ugh.....

Tried both. 1st ps3 got slightly better speed wired. But it was still so bad I tried on the other in just wired, and it was even worse there.

I always had terrible download speeds on the PS3 but zero issues with the PS4. I never could get the PS3 out of some kind of limited proxy mode.
