PS3 or 360

Here are games I could see myself playing:

Rock Band 3

Rock Band 3

Rock Band 3

Gran Turismo

uh...

Did I just answer my own question? Although Kinnect does look kind of cool and it seems like everyone and their mom has a 360. Can I just get a used one off of Ebay for $100 and be done with this?

There is a nice cable to connect the Xbox to a computer monitor. I like that.

Should I get a used one off of Ebay or get the 4GB slim model?

Yeah... it's called "HDMI". LOL.

Sounds like you want a PS3. IMHO, I like the xbox more. I'll probably end up with both eventually, but for now I have an XBoxWii60.

It seems like more people have the 360, and I would rather have whatever system the most people have. More likely to get issues resolved faster.

I just can't decide if I should get a used one off of Ebay or a new 4GB model for $200. I am thinking the 4GB model.

Plan to play games online... 360 is the way to go.

I disagree. I have both and find the 360 experience online to be maddening due to all the annoying high school kids on there. The PS3 seems to have a generally older more mature audience. But if you are going to play online with your friends on most of them have a 360 and not a PS3 then the 360 is the way to go. The BR abilities of the PS3 is also a very nice bonus. I do prefer the 360 for the Forza series though since you have a fairly reliable release schedule as oppsoed to the PS3 and the never going to be released(or so it seems) GT series.

Wait for/closer to black friday. You're likely to find either bundles or rebates/giftcards with the new systems. I'd wait and get the 4gb slim as a bundle or you'll probably see target or walmart give a $50 giftcard with it.

Do you own a decent gaming PC or want to watch Blu-rays? If so get a PS3. Otherwise, compare the games you like and go with that. Can't go wrong with either system.

Most of the Black Friday ads are out already.

I had both, and I liked the PS3 much more. It has a blu ray player, free online play, and I liked the UI better than the 360's.

360 Pros:
-Xbox live is superior to PSN
-Can choose the cheaper arcade if you're not concerned about a hard drive (and if you're willing, you can enable select drives such as Western Digital BEVT to function as a 360 hd, for less than an "elite" would cost)
-360 controller is compatible with Windows
-In addition, it seems that many people prefer the 360 controller to the dualshock
-For your personally, you can grab Forza 3 as an alternative to GT5

360 Cons:
-You must pay a monthly subscription for Live, MSRP $60/year though you can sometimes find deals for as low as $30/year
-In addition, a Live subscription is required for Netflix streaming
-Some people say that there is a larger amount of immature kids on live, when compared to PSN
-If you install a custom hard drive you run the risk of being banned from live (so you have to decide if the savings are worth the risk...though I'm not sure how much of a risk it is)

PS3 Pros:
-More exclusives than the 360, especially if you have a PC capable of gaming
-PSN is free
-Blu-ray drive
-You can always upgrade the hard drive to a larger size without fear of being banned from PSN
-For you personally, has GT5
-You can use the Dualshock with Windows, though you'll have to download some software to run it, and will probably need a bluetooth receiver

PS3 Cons:
-The general consensus seems to be that PSN is inferior to Live
-Higher base cost; no barebones option at a lower cost
-It seems (this is just an observation) that many multi-platform games are better optimized for the 360

This is just what I've gathered, as I only own a ps3. I'm sure you can fill in the rest based on what others have said. Decide what's right for you. I'll echo that if you want to play with friends, get the system they have. I also agree with mmntech's assessment; if you have a gaming computer go for the ps3.

If your primary motivation is Rock Band, the 360 is the best console for that. It has access to the entire RBN song library and is generally the best-supported console by Harmonix. However, you definitely don't want a used 360 off Ebay due to reliability issues with the older models. If you plan to get a lot of DLC/imports I would recommend a model with a hard drive, but if you get the 4G version you could plug in a 16G flash drive to get more space.

Of course, Gran Turismo is only available on PS3, so if you really want that instead of something like Forza you have to go the PS3 route. Also keep in mind what consoles your friends have if you want to play online with them.

- If you're not much of a "hardcore" gamer and you're just looking to pick up the system for those games specifically, I'd go with the PS3.

- If, however, you're looking to purchase more of the "core" games in the market a lot of the AAA games are on for both systems with notable exceptions (Uncharted, Gears of War, etc.); and like others have said, usually the games are better optimized on the 360.

- As far as Kinect; it's brand-new technology so other than maybe Dance Central, there's no must-have triple-A blockbuster games out. Having said that, I personally AM getting the kinect because my wife demands it for Dance Central alone (and the inevitable DLC that comes along) so if you have (non-gaming/female) people over on a regular basis it might be a great tool to entertain with. Also they're really pushing it along with PS3's new move so you can try them out at Best buy, Frys, etc.

We have multiple of both PS3 and 360🙂

Depending on who you ask in the household, you will get a different answer as to which is better. The answer may also vary as to the time of day 🙂.

I like the 360 better, for obvious reasons 🙂.

PS3 is worth it for GT5 alone lol....I just spent $700 getting ready for GT5. Obutto cockpit and Fanetec GT3 RS V2 Wheel and Clubsport Pedal.

Not really a pro. The PS3 controller works great with Windows using MotionJoy

Which I listed as a pro under the PS3, though I didn't know the name of the software. So it evens out in the end. Though, I'd give a slight nod to the 360 controller as it seems to be plug and play (as zerocool mentioned).
