You need an adapter between the Component Out on the PS3 and the VGA Input on your monitor. Start your search HERE , for example.

Someone else could explain what will happen to the aspect ratio of you games on a 4:3 monitor.

As for Audio, you could connect the analog Audio Out on the PS3 to a pair of powered computer speakers.

If your monitor supports it. I doubt your monitor can run higher than 1280x1024, but in that case, it may do 720p. Your aspect ratio will be whack, though.

Please don't buy a PS3. Sony has already admitted that Blu-Ray is a failure. Don't spend $500 on a system and run it on a sub $100 monitor. It just doesn't make sense.

Wow, when did Sony say that? I just got a PS3, and I'm extremely impressed with it (especially the Blu-ray). That's great if you have some weird thing against Sony/PS3...keep it to yourself and just answer the question. Don't put up a post and include random, false crap in it. Those last two sentences were good enough.

hans,

I've been trying to find the article but I haven't had any luck. I was reading the news on my cell phone a few days ago and there was an article stating that Sony is ready to take a $1.5 billion loss on the Blu-Ray. HD-DVDs are killing Blu-Ray discs in sales and it said that soon movies will stop coming out on Blu-Ray due to the lackluster sales its been having. They did say it will continue to be a media for the PS3 as well as a means to back things up (50 gigs is nice). Also, the top dogs from Sony that worked on the PS3 and pushed for the Blu-Ray supposedly have lost their jobs and are being replaced (per that article). I'm stating all this from that article. I LOVED PS1 and PS2 but after reading this article and after all the PS3 reviews I'm a little disappointed in the PS3. I'm not biased at all.

If anyone else has read this, or has a link to the article please chime in.

Funny how every topic where PS3 (or Xbox, Wii, etc) is mentioned, always turns into a pissing fight between the opposing fanboys. lol
Not to say mazeroth is a fanboy, but it is just a common observation.

Dont play a PS3 on a 17" CRT lol

Mazeroth is full of crap don't listen to him. Sony never conceded the format wars to HD-DVD and in fact they are pressing forward with more industry support than HD-DVD currently enjoys. Like a lot of others in the thread suggested, don't buy a PS3 and run it on a 17" CRT, you will be doing the PS3 and yourself a disservice. If you don't have a good HDTV yet then get one before even thinking of a PS3.

P.S. I own both consoles and the Xbox 360 > PS3 in almost every way.

I'm full of crap? I'm stating exactly what I read in an article, which we all know can sometimes be BS (coming from the information super highway!).

Search for a vdigi componet to vga transcoder and get that instead. Or maybe an X2VGA if it supports component in.
And for sound, hook up some PC speakers and get a minijack to rca audio splitter.
