I've got the original PS3 60gb with full backward compatability. I mainly purchased it to watch Blue Ray's on. I did wind up purchasing a couple of games and playing them thru.

The system is in overall great shape as it is adult owned and operated in a smoke free enviroment.

Only visible thing wrong with it is. The warranty void if removed label was picked off by my handicapped daughter....She is 9 and has Rett syndrome. I guess one of her biggest symptoms is she needs to keep her hands busy. Anyways she wound up picking at the sticker and removed it about a year or two ago. Other than that the system just has the usual light scratching that is common on shiny black plastic objects.

Currently I don't have much use for it other than maybe watching a Blu Ray that won't play on my PC. So I'm thinking most likely I'll just put it up on Craiglist or something.

My biggest question I guess would be the firmware. Currently it's outdated by how much I'm not sure. It's running Version 3.15 which still gives the option of loading an alternative OS.

Should I let it go online and do the firmware update?

Does it hold more resale value with the older firmware?

To remove all my data all I'd have to do is format the drive? This wouldn't get rid of the load other OS option would it?

Wound up throwing it on Craigslist as is and sold it in about an hour or so!

Thanks,
Ken

Only reason to update is if it doesnt play movies you want, or if you want to watch 3D, but thats up to you since thats all you really gain from updating.

The warranty sticker doesn't matter...it's clearly well out of warranty lol. If you don't need or want it, there's no harm in selling it.

This - It's been out of warranty for 4+ years, so why would it matter?

Figured as much.

I guess it's long out of warranty anyways.

So I guess the main thing would be to wipe the data. I can just use the restore feature under system settings which says it'll format the drive and put all setting back to original factory settings. This won't mess with the firmware or remove the alternate OS option would it?

Thanks,
Ken

might be able to get more for it with old firmware for hacking reasons. Worse comes to worse if someone wants to upgrade it it's not that big of a deal.
