Nintendo could double their Wii sales and be near the bottom of the list for percentage gain, even though they are outselling Sony in gross numbers by a several hundred thousand units per month.

Hah, but the Wii still sucks. In 2-3 years when we're looking back on things and the 360 and PS3 are both highly successful and the wii is garage sale material I'll be laughing at you.

That's ok, we all laugh at your rabid fanboyism today. We don't have to wait 3 years. 😉

There's no doubt the Wii is doing good now, but the question is whether or not it can hold up for years to come. Pretty much everyone that I know who bought one (including myself) was very impressed with the system at first... Wii Sports was a blast to play, especially with others, and Zelda was very good as well. However, the novelty of the new controller wore off eventually and Wii Sports can only entertain you for so long. Zelda is good, but once you're done with it... there isn't much. Virtual Console games are way overpriced, especially for the "newer" systems like the N64... if they were $5 for a N64 game, I'd have used it. The lack of online on any game so far really is a killer, because online gaming is so widespread and both the PS3 and 360 offer it, the PS3 for free. Overall, I was not impressed with the future lineup of games, so I sold the Wii. If you ask a lot of people who bought the system, they have since sold it as well. Everyone wants to buy a Wii, yes, because it's the new fad and the controller, Wii Sports, and low price lure them in. But the question is, how many people who have actually owned the Wii for several months are happy with it?

Personally I think $249 is a bit overpriced for the Wii, considering its capabilities. I don't think the Wii has proven that it is any more powerful than the original Xbox, if that. The hardware within the Wii must be extremely cheap for Nintendo to produce, and I bet they're making huge profits. That's good for Nintendo, and they definately are doing good for now. I'm just not sure the Wii is going to hold up with little (none for now) online play, very poor graphics, and the lack of many good games. The good thing about the Wii is that since it's so cheap to produce, Nintendo could probably drop the price down to $199 or even $149 if need be, and STILL be making a profit. The lowest MS can go, even with 65nm, is around $200 for the Core.

In terms of games, I already said the Wii has few quality titles. The thing I find interesting is that while everyone hates on the PS3 for having few good games, but very few people say the same about the Wii.

I love my Wii, but they're really lagging in quality games.

wii will have some of th best games og this generation. zeldas, marios, metroid primes. nintendo makes top quality games that surpass all others. thats reason enough to own the Wii.

besides dev are just now jumping the wii wagon. its kind of the opposite of catch 22. hihger install base, more dev developing (also cuz its cheaper to develop for), more games, more install base , more games, rinse repeat. see where i'm going. same happened to PS2. wii is simply emulating the success of the mighty playstation 2. probably one of the greates consoles ever.

It doesn't really tell us anythng about total US sales, but the PS3 is still the #1 selling Video Games item at Amazon on day 6 of the price drop.

They're giving away a remote control and Resident Evil Apocalpyse with it now, plus the 5 movies by mail deal.

Still, sales rank for the PS3 is currently #1 while the 360 is down at #22.

It looks like I'm not the only one waiting to buy the 65nm 360 Reliable Edition 🙂

You should trademark that.

We'll see what the NPD numbers look like for July. Sony said their sales doubled; if that's correct, we should see them in the 160k units/month range, right around the XBOX 360's sales.

I guess that means they want minigames and they don't want a $600 Blu Ray player.

Apparently some do want a $500 PS3 though. It's now day 9 of it being the #1 selling item in Amazon's video game store.

Kudos to your beloved wii though, it's outselling the xbox 360 at Amazon via independent sellers even though they're selling at $95 over list price.

sales rank - PS3 #1, wii at 3, xbox at 18

That was the killer app that made me pull the trigger. As I have never owned a PS2, the weak game line-up isn't a factor for me. I get to play GoW 1&2, the Ratchet&Clank series, MGS series, and a heap of others that weren't available for me Xbox. I'm playing Resistance, and other than Gears, it is the best shooter I've played in a long time. By the time I finish up the PS2 titles, the PS3 sequels for them will be here. 😀 Having skipped a gen from Sony will easily make up for the PS3 cost via the rock bottom PS2 game prices alone. Getting wifi, emotion engine, BR player, BR remote, and 6 BR movies, for $500 shipped, tax free, has me scratching my head why anyone is still bagging on it? 😕

becasue a lot of us had a ps2. we have already played all the stuff you are about too. ps. if you really wanna play ps2 games you know ps2 costs 129 and is thinner, queiter, and plain better than ps3 for ps2 games. not to mention the controller actually has rumble. that alone is reason enough to prefer ps2 over ps3.

Your posts speaks to why to prefer a PS2 to PS3 for PS2 games. The PS2 can't do the things I primarily bought a PS3 for, i.e. Blu-Ray and HD gaming. The PS2 game compatibility is just a plus. I stated my position and reasoning quite clearly, and I won't be throwing away cash on a console that would be completely superfluous to my wants/needs.

As of right now, the Wii nunchuk has dethroned the PS3 on the Amazon Best Sellers in video games.
Oh well, 10 days straight was a pretty good run, and ranked #2 is still much better than #24-33 where it was before.

Hopefully Sony is paying attention to the sales jump, and will be smart enough to drop the 80GB down to $499 after the 60GB sells out.

But then Sony might actually be doing something intelligent.

I cant figure out the hate either. PS3 might not be a dominate gaming force yet, but just look at the games. The next year will be very exciting for the PS3 as well as the 360. Now if only microsoft can put out a fixed version.

Some people just hate Sony and pass the hate onto anything made by it. When the big titles come out for the PS3, it will be a very attractive console. It's already doing pretty decently even without any "must have" games.

Personally I want Sony to lose this round because I like the merry-go-round at the top. It keeps innovation alive... look at Nintendo.

Agreed. I do have serious issues with Sony's pervasive DRM, especially when they were trying to be sneaky about Starforce. But I understand corporations desire to protect their investments, push their proprietary tech, and make piracy as diffcult as possible. I just can't find a good guy corporation, and subsequently, I can't choose a side and boycott the rest.

I planned to support HD-DVD, but with Disney being Blu-Ray, at least for now, and having a 7yr old, my hand was kinda forced. Wasn't thrilled about the price of the 360 player either, considering what I have invested in the platform already. The reliability issues with my 360, also cause me concern, since the only easy way to use the player, is with the console. Not interested in having to go back to a HTPC for playback of HD media. I had a bear of a time with overscan on my RP CRT HDTV and the custom res I had to use was unacceptable.
