Citing Amazon's "movers & shakers" list is deceptive, since it's based entirely on percentage gain.
Nintendo could double their Wii sales and be near the bottom of the list for percentage gain, even though they are outselling Sony in gross numbers by a several hundred thousand units per month.
Hah, but the Wii still sucks. In 2-3 years when we're looking back on things and the 360 and PS3 are both highly successful and the wii is garage sale material I'll be laughing at you.
That's ok, we all laugh at your rabid fanboyism today. We don't have to wait 3 years. 😉
There's no doubt the Wii is doing good now, but the question is whether or not it can hold up for years to come. Pretty much everyone that I know who bought one (including myself) was very impressed with the system at first... Wii Sports was a blast to play, especially with others, and Zelda was very good as well. However, the novelty of the new controller wore off eventually and Wii Sports can only entertain you for so long. Zelda is good, but once you're done with it... there isn't much. Virtual Console games are way overpriced, especially for the "newer" systems like the N64... if they were $5 for a N64 game, I'd have used it. The lack of online on any game so far really is a killer, because online gaming is so widespread and both the PS3 and 360 offer it, the PS3 for free. Overall, I was not impressed with the future lineup of games, so I sold the Wii. If you ask a lot of people who bought the system, they have since sold it as well. Everyone wants to buy a Wii, yes, because it's the new fad and the controller, Wii Sports, and low price lure them in. But the question is, how many people who have actually owned the Wii for several months are happy with it?
Personally I think $249 is a bit overpriced for the Wii, considering its capabilities. I don't think the Wii has proven that it is any more powerful than the original Xbox, if that. The hardware within the Wii must be extremely cheap for Nintendo to produce, and I bet they're making huge profits. That's good for Nintendo, and they definately are doing good for now. I'm just not sure the Wii is going to hold up with little (none for now) online play, very poor graphics, and the lack of many good games. The good thing about the Wii is that since it's so cheap to produce, Nintendo could probably drop the price down to $199 or even $149 if need be, and STILL be making a profit. The lowest MS can go, even with 65nm, is around $200 for the Core.
In terms of games, I already said the Wii has few quality titles. The thing I find interesting is that while everyone hates on the PS3 for having few good games, but very few people say the same about the Wii.
