PS3 Number 1 Seller On Amazon...

What's with the surge in Goldeneye for N64 sales? It's especially weird since it is only available through the marketplace. 😕

Nintendo lowered the price of the N64.

There have been a fair number of people waiting for the price drop, just like people (me included) are waiting for the 65nm "Reliable Edition" of the 360 before buying it.

Combine the price drop with
- greatly improved firmware
- new titles like Ninja Gaiden
- blu-ray looking like the winner of the HD wars
- 5 free blu-ray movies by mail

And the PS3 at $500 is looking like a decent value to more people.

If all you care about is games though, a 360 Reliable Edition will still be a better choice once it's available this Fall.

Decent value? Considering there are at least a few great games on PS3 (not all exclusives), and many to eventually come out (possibility of ending up like PS2, which had the best/biggest selection of games...a lot less likely to happen this time around, though), I'd say it's an excellent value! With Resistance, Oblivion, Motorstorm, R6: Vegas, and Ninja Gaiden (anything else?), I think these would hold most people over for a while.

But yeah, if you want all the games now (and possibly for a while longer), the 360 is the way to go.

I expected a sales spike, but not to this extent.

Did anyone happen to see the video where Tretton gets interviewed about the price drop? It's pretty funny...but all I remember is that I found the link on gametab.com. They asked "Why (did you drop the price)?" and he says something about a 10 year plan...like 5 times. He never says "for sales", even when asked.

My PS3 was free, though... 😀 (Youth convention, my brother won a drawing out of maybe 1000-2000 people, and it was also launch day...we got it a month later, though, due to lack of availability).

Selling a $500,000 car at $100,000 is a great value too, but will I buy it?

An exaggeration, but this is still the problem with the high price, many people are still unwilling to pay for all the features. It's much easier to get consumers to buy a $400 console now and add upgrades along the way. There are some people who like having everything at the time of purchase though. I was a huge original Xbox fan, and even the 360 at $400 was a bit of a stretch for me to get at launch, $600 would have been completely out of the question.

Amazon is now throwing in the PS3 Remote, Memento on Blu Ray, plus the 5 free mail in movies...free shipping plus no tax for many to boot...

Memento is the highest ranking high def disk of both blu ray/HD DVD formats, beating out the pre-orders of 300 which was the highest...in the past 24 hours, it has risen in rank by 697,500% (from #20,928 to #3).

Yeah the Reliable Edition is what I'm waiting on, aswell as the $299 price tag on any version with a HD.

Wow they are doing anything to try a move some PS3's. Apparently Sony quit selling PS3's so they was forced to cut the price by $100 and still have to add a bunch of extras to get anyones interest.

That made it a better deal than my 10% off@Target= order placed. Picked up resistance in FS/FT so now I just need to hunt up GoW 1&2 for a good price too, and I'm all set. Thanks for the heads up on the extra bonuses

Worked on me brudda. 😀 That is a lot of stuff for $500 to my door, remote, PS3 60gb bundle, and 6 BR movies=Hot deal IMHO. I have almost that much wrapped up in 360+wifi+extra controller+12month gold, and it still doesn't play HD-DVDs and has a 3rd of the storage space 😉

Besides, it is a good move by Sony IMO, the only way to get in the black on this venture is to get a large enough install base to make the money back through accessories, products, and services. Being a BR player will help sales there too, as they are essentially fighting a 2 front war with one product. Even if BR movie sales in retail don't explode, more demand for content from NetFlicks and BB means they order more copies, none of which would hurt Sony's bottom line.

actually, the 5 blu-ray discs are not just for the PS3, you get it by buying any blu-ray player. Buy amazon is giving the extra movie and blu-ray remote with it. I think bestbuy or cc or something was giving an extra controller with their deal.

Its certainly not a bad deal 😀. If I had a HDTV I'd consider it but playing PS3/BR movies on a 10 year old 27" tube is just funny. I can't wait till Black Friday. I am gonna pick me up a 37" or better LCD and a Xbox 360(hopefully to new rev). I can't wait for Nov 😀 I will finally get to play Gears Of War and the new GTA 4.

Yeah, hopefully MS is fast tracking the 65nm to get it on shelves by then, but there is a lot of skepticism about that. Good call on the HDTV, there should be some smoking hot deals on them for BF.

Citing Amazon's "movers & shakers" list is deceptive, since it's based entirely on percentage gain.

Nintendo could double their Wii sales and be near the bottom of the list for percentage gain, even though they are outselling Sony in gross numbers by a several hundred thousand units per month.

I thought it was interesting that while the PS3 was the #1 selling item in electronics after the price drop, the Wii was #2 and it was sold out. Apparently they count Amazon Marketplace sales.

PS3 will sales will jump a bit like after the European launch (see March 07), but they have a long way to go.

well considering amazon doesn't even have Wii in stock i don't think it'll be on the amazon list for some time/

Hah, but the Wii still sucks. In 2-3 years when we're looking back on things and the 360 and PS3 are both highly successful and the wii is garage sale material I'll be laughing at you.

Still, sales rank for the PS3 is currently #1 while the 360 is down at #22.

It looks like I'm not the only one waiting to buy the 65nm 360 Reliable Edition 🙂

I'm not trying to knock anything. Just pointing out that there is a distinct difference between sales and sales rank.

The PS3 was at #28 before the price drop and the 360 was around #16 I think. If MS announces a price drop tonight, I imagine we'll see the 360 shoot up to the top as well as soon as the price change goes into effect.

That's ok, we all laugh at your rabid fanboyism today. We don't have to wait 3 years. 😉
