Hi all - just a basic question here about PS3 connections.

I have my PS3 hooked to my Samsung LCD tv via HDMI. My TV is hooked up to my panasonic HTIB receiver via optical audio out.

Everything seems to sound pretty good but I just want to make sure I have it hooked up correctly. BluRays sound great :)

I have the optical audio going straight from my PS3 to my receiver and HDMI connection from PS3 to TV.

Some TVs do not correctly pass DD-5.1 / DTS to the optical output when the source is HDMI. Double-check the receiver display with a known good disc to make sure you're not just getting matrix'ed stereo (DPL-II).

I've got my PS3 hooked up my my LCD via HDMI, and will soon have a direct optical connection to my receiver (once the cables come in). If you hook up directly to your receiver, you just have to change the audio output from HDMI (i.e. to TV then back to the receiver) to the optical option. Currently I have mine connected via RCA cables directly to the stereo.

Off-topic ... What games do you play Melty?

You can set the PS3 to output video through the HDMI and audio through optical so you can do it either way. This is how I have it connected.

Roger that guys, thanks. I'll go optical audio directly from the PS3 to the receiver and HDMI to the TV. I want to be sure everything is top-notch :)

Patt: just NHL and Tiger so far... Although I've downloaded Fight Night 4 and NFS: Shift demos as well :)

Did you get the newest versions of Tiger and NHL? I have Tiger09 and NHL08 (which I SUCK at). If you've got the same version, we should hoop up for a round of golf or you can destroy me at hockey.

Bastard. I bought Tiger 9 because it was only $20 vs $60. Might just have to splash out. We'll see.

As many mentioned above, I have my optical out from PS3 going straight to receiver and HDMI to the TV. That way I can turn off the TV and still stream music using the PS3 media server. The receiver is picking it up as AC3 / DTS 5.1
