PS3 just really sucks for me.

I received a PS3 as a gift a few months ago, great BR player. Well, I havent bought any games for it as I have a 360 and the sony exclusives just werent my cup of tea. Today I decide screw it and bought Resistance: Fall of man and Uncharted: Drakes Fortune.

Well, resistance played fine and is ok for 15 bucks but Uncharted played fine until chapter 2 when the POS3 froze. I unplugged, checked the disc, tried playing again and all it does is freeze the program or freeze the system HARD. Some googling and LO AND BEHOLD tons of people have the exact same issue.

This is major fail that a sony exclusive game doesnt even work with the firmware. It really is sad. Sony has no fix for their own game.

Must PS3 owners have to google compatability on a game before they buy?

I thought they had fixed this, did they break it again? I played through Uncharted 1 without any issues not too long ago.

What firmware are you using?

3.15. The game played fine up until the beginnig of chapter 2 when it crashed. Now I can't even start a new game. The system did say an update for the game was available, 1.3 I think, but I deleted all the saves and game data but the crap still wont run. All my BR movies work as well as Resistance, just uncharted. I did get another copy and it does the same thing. I will try a restore of the system but that probably wont work and if it does that is a sorry fix..

Edit, nvm if you're using 3.15 idk what the problem could be.

There are freezes in both Uncharted games that are pretty common (1st game Chapter 17, 2nd game Chapter 25). 3.15 is the latest firmware... I just played though the first few chapters of Uncharted: Drakes Fortune earlier this week with no problems.

Make sure you let the PS3 download the latest Uncharted update before playing.

So it's tell you there's an update, you've ignored that and decided to complain about a bug?

No, I installed the update. Its 1.10, I deleted it after the crash. I tried it again but the game still locks the system in chapter 2. I tried a bunch of fixes thats going around the web, maybe some combo will eventually work, but its a PITA to even have to do. A game for a console should just work.

Does it freeze in the same spot each time on Chapter 2? I had a similar experience last year with Firmware 3.00 with Chapter 7. However a later firmware fixed that problem.

I was a little upset the other night that Uncharted 2 froze on me, but when I looked it up it was a crash that seems to effect a lot of people (Chapter 25). The Uncharted games so far are the only games that have froze on my PS3.

Heh- I've had the opposite experience- xbox 360 freezing/disc reading errors- bought a ps3 and couldn't be happier.
That said- never tried Uncharted 1- played through uncharted 2 w/ no issues (great game)

The Uncharted issues seem to be random. My first play though of Uncharted 2 it froze at the end of Chapter 25. I replayed that area, to get some treasures, etc... and it didn't.

Happens on XBoX as well so get over it. At least Sony isn't replacing 30% of their sold consoles.

If you're having problems with it make sure you install the updates. Otherwise, sorry to hear you are having issues. I had no problems with that game.

I don't think anyone I know has had any issues with Uncharted 1 or 2.

I've had Uncharted (1 or 2) freeze maybe once.

The PS3 is the best console on the market, sorry you can't see it that way, but I do.

'Best' is subjective.... but I'd agree ;)

If by "PS3" you mean Xbox 360 then yes, I agree. :)

And no, I haven't had a problem with Uncharted. :)

I prefer not having a 33% failure rate and having quality, but to each their own.

Yeah, that's why I said to me.

When was it just 30%?

Last I knew 100% were defective. Eventually your 360 will go bad on you. I have owned 6...
And everyone I know has gone through 3 or 4 at least (everyone I know that games on their 360)

My PS3 has not died once, and I only have 1 friend who had their ps3 die on them.

This mindset is stupid... eventually EVERYTHING will go bad on you. Cars will eventually shit the bed at 200,000+ miles... does that mean that they're 100% defective?

Now I agree that the 360 has issues, but saying they'll all 'eventually' go bad is retarded as it applies to everything.

They all go bad sooner than they should due to crappy design. ;)

You know exactly what he meant but are trying to be philosophical about it...

Sorry to hear about your issues OP, have you tried contacting Sony about the issue? Dunno how good their customer support is...hope it's better than M$'.

Jasper failure rate is lower than PS3's failure rate...

Obviously he didn't considering the guy said "100% defective." He's correct, everything has an eventual 100% failure rate...

jasper is like the 4th or 5th revision isn't it? and nearly 5yrs into the system. also, how much data is even out regarding jasper to make any statement about its longevity, plus you would need to compare jasper w/ the newest revision of the ps3.

i have both a ps3 and 360 (well, 4 360s that are all on their last leg) and for me the ps3 is the way to go. the gaming is identical if you compare the same games, the free psn thus far has been excellent for me - when d/l it will max out my 1.5MB/s connection (i know you 360 fanboys will crap on it, but some of my friends have been hit a bit hard w/ this "recession" and that $50 actually makes a difference for them), you are not tied to hardware - yes you can swap out a regular 2.5" hdd in the ps3 and not have to buy an overpriced sony only unit, you get wifi built in w/ the ps3 and you get an excellent br player on top of everything else.

Things can die even if they're not defective. Parts have a maximum expected lifetime. If they wear out after a reasonably long life, they're not defective.

It's accurate to say that 100% of Xbox 360 were defective up to some point in time, because they had a known design defect that caused failures. Whether they failed or not they still contained a defect (because of the flawed design), so I would call them defective. I think that's the point he was trying to make - they contain a design defect. It's not a manufacturing defect that will only affect people who got "bad" systems, it's a design defect that is present in all systems.

The Jasper has been out for over a year now and those #'s compare it to the latest PS3 Slim, so yeah, I think there's enough data.

Don't get me wrong, the 360 had a horrible start/launch and it will forever be a black spot on M$'s gaming legacy, but they've done a good job of making it very stable now.

+1 for overpriced HDD's, that's just robbery. As for XBL, I pay on average $28 or so for a year and considering the speed and features that I get I find it well worth it. For gaming I don't want WiFi as it is, wired is the way to go.

Both are good consoles, for me personally the 360 has the titles and features I want and mine has been rock solid (although a friend is on #4, never had a Jasper though).
