With PS3 finally gettging some good exclusivies (Ratchet & Clank Future and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune) I bit a bullet and bought 80GB console at K-Mart (thanks to their 20% off coupon). Since I never owned PS2, I thought that I would pick up a classic PS2 title here and there in between new worthy PS3 releases. Sony's statement that their software emulation provides 90% backward compatibility soothed me - if I find 1 title out of 10 that I would want to play but could not, so be it - no biggie I thought.
So, skipping forward, I played Ratchet & Clank Future and that game is very very good - great graphics, memorable story, good humor, excellent gameplay. I looked at PS2 for previous titles in the franchise and found at least 4 games - each and everyone with excellent reviews from users. So, just in case, I decided to check what's the BC status of these games in emulation mode. I mean, they were all hits, so the logic would dictate that if any games are backward compatible these must be. And what do I find out? None of these games, according to Sony's Compatible Status Support page are playable on PS3@!
Wow!
I sincerely wonder, how did Sony come up with 90% BC statement? Do they consider games that have corrupted graphics, hang at some points and perform like in slow motion to be Backward Compatible? Because, if they don't, the simple statistics analysis would show that chances of me finding 4 games in a row that get into that elusive 10% no-BC list are astronomical and I should probably rush to the nearest casino before my luck runs out.
I am not any kind of Sony boy (whatever the epithet may be inserted there) - I just really want to find out if Sony is pushing some serious marketing BS our way or there is something else going on that I am not aware of.
Your personal experience is very welcomed.
