PS3 games with great stories

As I mentioned in my MGS4 thread, I thought it was a great game with an amazing story.
Are there any other PS3 games with awesome stories? I really felt connected to the characters and the story, something I rarely feel except when reading books and from few movies. This was like a really good book, movie, and game all wrapped in one.

So throw out your suggestions for PS3 games with amazing stories!

It doesn't even seem like there are many RPG games for the PS3.

Also, maybe a dumb question but i have the 80 GB PS3 (upgraded to 320GB drive) but when they say it's not backwards compatible with PS2 games, is that ALL PS2 games or is it kind of hit and miss?

Folklore is not at all amazing in the story department, but it is friggin weird as hell. I can't say you'll feel connected to the characters (especially Ellen, who is irritating) but I personally was driven to complete the game just because the new stuff I saw as I went along got more and more surreal.

There's a few other RPGs but none of them have as strong a story as Folklore (which didn't set a high bar in the first place.) I definitely can't recommend Eternal Sonata or Enchanted Arms. Valkyria Chronicles and Fallout 3 are highly rated games, but story is the biggest weakness of both. Bioshock's narrative is very overrated and you probably already played it. I guess that leaves Uncharted (which doesn't have too deep a story but does have great voice acting) and horror games like Siren and Condemned 2.

Regarding BC, if your PS3 has 2 USB ports it won't play any PS2 games, if it has 4 ports it will play most (80GB NTSC, 60GB PAL) or all (20/60GB NTSC) PS2 games.

Already played Bioshock on PC and I really liked it too. Good story, imo.

I only have 2 USB ports so I guess I have no PS2 backwards compatibility. I don't get why they did this? they left PS1 compatibility but not PS2?

uncharted is the most story driven game i've ever played. it is the only game with real people (opposite of games like ratchet and clank) where the voice acting is actually believable and you actually feel chemistry between the characters.

ratchet and clank is another one.

Valkyria Chronicles
Ryuu ga Gotoku KENZAN (though, I'm not sure if this will get a US release, but it is Yakuza series)
Uncharted

I'm sure there are more, but as of right now, I'm pretty backlogged in terms of games... tons of games & no time to play.

PS1 is software emulation, so I assume it wasn't too big of a deal to put in. I understand why they removed the hardware BC in PS2, but I can't get my mind around the software emu of PS2 as to why they removed it either.

Oh, and White Knight Chronicles (when it comes out). Tales of Vesperia will also be out for PS3 soon with extra content.

PS2 BC was always partially or entirely hardware. What people call "software" PS2 BC still used the Graphics Synthesizer chip, and only the Emotion Engine was emulated in software. So first they removed the EE chip to save a bunch of money, and then the GS to save a little more.

There really isn't. It's comparable to GTA4, but nowhere near MGS4 or even Uncharted. It has a story and it's not bad, it just doesn't stand out from most games.

I thought Valkyria Chronicles had wonderful _story-telling_ at the very least, and the story wasn't half bad, either. Eternal Sonata isn't so bad, either. And, of course, Disgaea 3 is a bit off the wall.

If your 80GB PS3 is fairly new and says that it is not backwards compatible with PS2 games, then you cannot play any PS2 games.

Have you played FFX on the PS2? Good story IMO and you can connect with the characters (at least I did)

EDIT: doh, didnt read that you have no BC. What about Eternal Sonata?

I liked BioShock, but you already played that.

I liked Eternal Sonata, but the story wasn't all that great to me.

Uncharted was good..'til the end.

Guitar Hero? :p

Final Fantasy VII is $9.99 on PSN for download now.

I also found the story in Heavenly Sword to be very worthwhile to play through.

I did play it when I had my PS2, but couldn't get into it. These later FF games seem to have sucked.

I played it on my PS1 and I did get the download, but I never did think FFVII was the messiah of gaming that most people here do.

Uncharted and Kane and Lynch have decent stories. Just graphically Kane and Lynch isnt all the great, the the scenarios and story is pretty good.
