"the blu-ray 2.0 spec, called "BD-Live" will be coming to the PS3 in the next few days via the firmware 2.20 update. " (details at Ars link above)

Also mentioned:
- You can now play DivX and WMV format files that are over 2 GB.
- Resume Play: begin playing a DVD or BD disc from the point where you previously stopped it, even if you eject the disc and insert a different movie or game.
- Use your PSP as a remote control to play back your music files on your PS3 without turning on your TV.
- The Internet browser now displays some web pages faster. In addition [Save Target] has been added as an option under file. This option lets you save a file that is linked to a web page to your PS3 hard drive or storage media."

Hah... that guy that got banned from the Playstation forums will be excited.

Modeps really does have some pull with Kaz.

Step by step Sony keeps making the PSP more interesting to me:

- Use your PSP as a remote control to play back your music files on your PS3 without turning on your TV.

PSP & PS1/PSN games, remote play, now music player remote control. Eventually they'll make me break down and spend the $169, even though I'd only use it at home.

The PSP is a really nice compliment to the PS3. You can do RemotePlay (been doing it for awhile but with the new 2.20, it adds more functionality) and you can even stream videos to your PS3 which in turn can be viewed on your PSP. Cool stuff.

You mentioned BD2.0 (LiveBD! or whatever they call it) in the summary but left it out in the post. I already read about 2.20 on the Playstation blog (friend linked it to me earlier), and saw that it's included, but I thought you might want to add it in.

Amusingly enough, that blog said it's the first LiveBD! enabled player. It just shows how much better a buy the PS3 is for BR playback.

I hope they update the Flash in the web browser to play FanCast and Hulu while they are tweaking the web browser (and put in a setting within the nested menu instead of prompting you each time you visit a web page "Do you wish to run the plug-in".

Awesome... Sony has really been on the ball with the firmware updates and adding features that are actually useful.

I honestly think Sony should sell two "versions" of the PS3. One the way it looks now, and another way to where it looks like a typical STB that would belong in an entertainment rack. It's obviously the only GOOD choice for people buying blu-ray players, but I'd guess there are quite a few people who don't opt for it because of the way it looks.

Just my opinion, I'm probably wrong. 😀

That's a pretty good idea. Include the Blu-ray remote and optionally include a more movie-centric version of the XMB. I've had my PS3 box in my office at work for the last few weeks, because I had to mail in that rebate form. Since then two of my coworkers have stopped by and asked about its Blu-ray capabilities. There seems to be a lot more interest since HD-DVD died.

Do any of these features get incorporated into the custom firmwares that are developed for the PSP? I haven't upgraded mine in a while, but last time I did there didn't seem to be much interest in adding these features to the PSP. I'd rather have the ability to play my old PS1 games (which is why I bought the PSP in the first place) than these PSP/PS3 integration features, as nice as they are.

I have an old 1.5 firmware PSP that I never really play basically because I don't want to have to pop in a new game that will require me to update. Do any of you know if it is possible to force this up to the higher firmware so I can take advantage of these features and be able to play games like the new GoW?

*Just to clarify, I bought it mainly for homebrew/emulation. I want to buy new games but am afraid of the firmware updates.

I'm not sure. I'm pretty much using the standard Sony firmware (latest firmware v3.93). Emulation is cool, but I really have all I need with emulation on all of my other hardware, so the standard Sony firmware is fine with me. I just use my PSP for PS3 integration, movies, music, games and soon maybe TV watching.
