You're right about servers and clusters can tolerate computers that die on them but no one I know of has made an processor that can tolerate a part of itself dieing.Originally posted by: MercenaryForHire

The ps3 uses 7 spes due to manufacturing issues. Who ever heard of a part of a cpu dieing and needing a replacement?Originally posted by: Crescent13Then in the first paragraph, I saw they said that the PS3 cell would only use 7 SPE's due to manufacturing yield issues, and I stopped reading.
For those of you that don't know, the reason the PS3 is only using 7 SPe's is for redundancy, if one dies, there is one more to take it's place, it has nothing to do with manufacturing yield issues.
Servers have multiple physical CPUs in case of the unfortunate circumstance of one of the DYING. Having a redundant core isn't that far of a leap. 😛

Why do I keep hearing all these suggestions for Wii? What's so great about it if it has a bunch of kiddy games?
