Ps3 External hard drive

Ok i have the Thermaltake sata docking station.

i reformatted my seagate 320 g sata drive to fat32. i used swissknife app and have verified that it is fat32. I then used this folde structure
PS3>
VIDEO
AUDIO
PHOTO
GAME

The ps3 wont recognize my hd now matter what. The usb thumb drive works fine. Does anyone know if certain drive are compatable with the ps3? Does anyone have an external usb hard drive working on their ps3?

ps the thermatake docking staion has its own power cord

I know you can drop any SATA drive into the PS3 and have it work, but I don't know about USB drive.

I tried to get my external USB drive (a Seagate FreeAgent) to work, but could never get the PS3 to recognize it. Instead I just connected them each to my PC directly.

Sorry I can't be of much more help than that.

Thanks i may just have to just stream my movies via nero home server instead of running them from and ext hd

Ive tried Seagate own format tool, and fat32format. on both i could verify that the drive is fat32 but when i plugged the drive into my ps3 it wont see it

I did almost the exact same thing you did only I used my original 20gb hard drive from my PS3 and put it in the thermatake docking station and it worked fine...

I recall a hard drive restriction of 250gb so I would try to create two smaller partitions on your hard drive and see if that fixes the problem.

I just did the fat32format on a... whatever 127 GB is equivalent to, and it shows up fine.
