PS3 emulating Xbox games?

Recently, I?ve been thinking about the possibility that the Xbox 360 could be able to emulate PS2 games, because it has enough power to do so and, actually, the 360 emulates Xbox games (which are in my opinion hardest to emulate than PS2 games). But then I figured a great problem: the 360 doesn?t have an ?open? OS (I mean, just Microsoft has the ways to work on/with it), making impossible that somebody could create an emulator for the console, being obviously that Microsoft is the only one able to do so and that?s suicidal from the legal viewpoint. But later that I figured that the PS3 has the potential to emulate Xbox games, because it has power, a Linux version and a browser that can allow users to download data from the Internet. So, a programmer could make an emulator that run on the Linux version for the PS3, upload it and everybody would be able to download it, making the PS3 capable for playing Xbox games and even create a driver for the Xbox 360 controller, making the experience more ?natural?, everything without a legal penalty against Sony.

These are my thoughts, if you got something to say about it, please post it. Thanks.

(Note: English isn?t my mother language, so excuse the possible mistakes I?ve done.)

Sure it could be done but I'm not sure it will be done.

And I guess a legal ps2 emulator for xbox 360 could be made if you bought a developer license from MS and the developer kit from MS.

It can be done but its really hard since Microsoft glued the area were you could install a mod chip. The only decent hack i have seen is the firmware hack which isn't compatible with my 360 DVD drive.

Edit : I found the 1st mod chip on sale ;

Anyways this chip is going to be extremely hard to install and would need a really good soldering skill.

Well think of it like this, if there isn't a proper xbox emulator for linux yet (which I don't think there is) what is the chances of getting an xbox emulator thats runs on linux that runs on the ps3. Get what I mean? If an xbox emulator for Linux is ever released, then it will probably be possible to get that running on the ps3 but I doubt the former will ever happen. Not for another five years or so.

Xecuter all the way :D

You don't really need a mod chip for the 360 as of yet. There are no homebrew dashboards yet, no upgradeable HD's (the big ones, not the laptop ones they throw in the 360). Hell, you can't upgrade the HD anyway.
The only real thing you would even look into getting is the Blaster 360 to flash the DVD-Rom drive without taking it out.

I'm pretty sure the Xbox and PS2 haven't even been emulated on PCs yet, emulating cross platform isn't easy. It'd probably be a nightmare trying to get Xbox games to run on the PS3's already complicated Cell. It won't ever be done.

yeah that's probably why. the Cell Processor is really difficult to program for. it might be done, but not without severe performance loss. the two CPU's are very very different.
