PS3 Doesn't see files on my computer...

I set up my ps3 so that it I can stream movies/songs/etc. from my computer over the PS3. I have it set up fine (or so I thought). It can even see the 'sample media' that comes pre loaded with windows 7. The problem is whenever I throw a movie or something into the video or movie folders on my computer, the PS3 doesn't see them. It still only shows that one piece of sample media. Anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?
 
What format are your movies in? The PS3 is notoriously picky about formats and doesn't have very good support.
 
^ I use ps3 media server on my xbox for the files that windows media center can't play, and it works great, except I can't disable/enable subtitles (or I just haven't figured out how yet).
