PS3 BluRay Player Question

I have a PS3 and a Sony 50 inch sxrd rear projection tv. I have watched my first blu ray movie (Ironman) and, as stated, the movie doesn't fill the entire screen. There is a blank space on the bottom and top of the screen. I have Direct TV and the HD signal fills the screen then but not when running a blu ray. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Not again. Search is your friend.

The aspect ratio of your movie is not the same as your tv.

Well, I tried search, to no avail. So, I need to change the aspect ratio of my TV only when I play blu rays?

I think Blu Ray demo's in stores aern't helping this issue. All the demo discs I've used crop all the movie trailers to 16 x 9.

No you need to learn how to search

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2086756&enterthread=y

After I type something in the search area and click on search, nothing happens. The Firefox symbol in the far right corner just keeps spinning. Even after 5 minutes.
Anyway, I now understand the movie itself is in a different aspect ratio. Thanks to all who responded.

Jeez, no doubt.

Why all the sarcasm, hate, and anger? It lends nothing to the conversation. Several years ago Anandtech wasn't this bad. What happened?

Its just that this same exact question gets asked once per week, so it tends to annoy people a little more each time it would seem.

unfortunately this is a trend on a lot of forums where people criticize new members for not using the search feature. my feelings on this are that if you have nothing nice to say in a persons thread you should stay out of the thread and maybe politely private message that person and suggest he use the search feature or maybe be a nice person and answer his question.

your PS3 is defective. Tell you what, I'll trade my precious Panasonic RP-82S for your defective PS3. It's silver and plays DVD-Audio too.

Never mind, I forgot I love my DVD-Audio.

RIP RP-82S

Mine died a few years back...IIRC the motor that spins the disc died. Replaced it with a Samsung upconverting player with one major flaw:

Fast forward and reverse steps as follows - 2x 4x 64x

What the hell....

lulz.

So .. 2x, faster, but not fast enough to really be useful... then 4x, decently fast, but still not enough to really get somewhere, then BAM 64X ZOMG the movie is OVER already.. crap now I have to restart, where was I?

And the "Lifers" are usually the annoyed ones who respond sarcastically. Probably why they are "Lifers" all they do is rip into peoples posts. :p

Anyway, of the 1000s of movies I have I think a handfull actually fill my 16:9 screen.

Pretty much, like when you're trying to get back to where you left off in a movie but aren't sure the chapter...2x is way too slow...4x decent but not enough....64x holy crap you see 1 out of every 5 scenes as they fly by. Freaking annoying!

Sometimes its difficult to tell exactly what chapter...believe it or not...even 4x is often too slow for movies with long chapters.

I dont know if you can classify my BR player as standalone as it is a Lite-On PC player but it does take a few seconds to load. I only have a handfull of BR discs so I cant really tell if its the nor or not as I havent touched any other player but for 79 bucks it does what I need it to do. Play BR movies. :)
