I need help with my piece of shit PS3. I've only had it since December, and this is the third time that it gives me a black screen. I tried to do the video reset like I did the other times, and nothing happens. Ay ideas what else I can try? Also, what would be the reason that it keeps doing this? I have a few friends with playstations and they have never had to deal with a black screen, but I've had in 3 times in 6 months.

I've yet to have any issues like that with my PS3. Could it possibly be a bad hdmi input on your TV or monitor? Possibly cables?

I still have a fat PS3 and never had this problem. Did you buy used?

Also do you have 2 video outputs coming from the PS3 into the TV (I.E analog & digital)? It sounds like the resolution is changing or doesn't match your TV. Only time I got black screens were times I expected them - when I went from a digital output to analog (have to go back in and set it before you turn off the console) or vice versa.

Yup. Even put a brand new hdmi cable on it and moved it to my main tv where my Xbox is hooked up and still nothing. If this reset doesn't work, I'm just getting rid of it and I will pick up a roku for our room. That's pretty much all I use the ps3 for at this point.

are you getting any sound by any chance? sound with no video?

just curious because my projector will randomly flicker black for like a second, but i still get sound. i've narrowed it down to being either the in-wall hdmi cable as the issue, the hdmi port on my wall mount in my closet, or the hdmi port on my projector. i have another hdmi cable already installed behind the wall that i could swap out, but i've just been too lazy to do so because that means taking off some faceplates, and it happens so randomly that it isn't worth it. like i can go 8 hours without it doing it once, or i can turn on my stuff and it happens once within 10 minutes.

No audio or video. Then I will do the video reset and it will lauch to the screen that says something like "Would you like to use the HDMI for video and audio". I select yes and then the screen just goes black and does nothing.

I've had 3 different PS3s develop HDMI problems, never happened with any xbox I had (of course the xboxes died from overheating but that's besides the point).

I think it has to do with the HDCP built in due to blu ray.

I finally had to factory reset it and it still wouldn't work on the HDMI. Never mind about any help, I am getting rid of it tomorrow.

Is it still under warranty? I don't recall the warranty terms of the PS3 and I picked up mine used but I would've thought that a $300 piece of electronics would at least have a 1 year warranty.

Yes it's under warranty, but I really don't care at this point. I've had nothing but issues with Sony this generation and its only used to stream. Roku has a better selection of apps so I will just get one of those.
