PS3 backwards compatibility questions

The trifecta is complete: thanks to the magic of Craigslist, I picked up a backwards-compatible PS3 over the weekend and now have all three current-gen consoles. While part of this purchase is forward-looking (hello, FF XIII), a lot of delaying the console purchase until I could find a BC version was backwards-looking, namely, my large collection of unfinished PS2 titles.

I understand there's a PS2 memory card adapter available to transfer saves from PS1/PS2 memory cards, but are there any brick and mortar merchants who still carry these? Some online searches at the usual suspects (Best Buy, Gamestop, Target, etc.) don't show any results for something as simple as PS3 adapter. Obviously, I can go online/CL/eBay if I need to, but instant gratification and all that.

Second, are there PS2 controller adapters that actually work with non-Dualshock controllers? My understanding is the official Sony ones don't, but maybe some third-party ones might. I've got some DDR pads (non-Red Octane, but I can't remember the manufacturer -- BNR?) and Guitar Hero controllers (official) that would be nice to still get some occasional use. Does anyone have any experience with particular adapter/controller combinations?

My roommate got his Memory Card adapter at a Gamestop IIRC, so you might want to either call, or go on into one.

As for the other thing, I have no idea.

Last time I looked (a couple of years ago) the PS2 controller adapters didn't work well for rhythm games, but read up on them at Amazon to see if that's changed.

Play N' Trade has them sometimes. Then again, they sometimes have Atari 2600s in box as well (not kidding).

An Action Replay disc and a PS2 should allow you to transfer your saves from a memory card to USB stick. A modchip or softmod on a PS2 will also allow this through uLaunchElf. From there it should be trivial to get them onto the PS3.
