Im hooking up my PS3 to my projector via hdmi. Not sure how it handles audio though.

Right now I have my 360 hooked up with hdmi, and i also have the av adapter in, which i convert to stereo and then lead that to speakers. I would like to do the same with ps3 if thats possible. Is it gonna let sound go through the AV multi out if i have hdmi plugged in? And what about the toslink slot? If theres a converter from toslink to stereo, i guess that would work too.

Im about to make an order on monoprice, so i wanna make sure i get the right thing. (Right now i only have an hdmi cable. Original ps3 cables are gone, so i might need to order these.)

Easiest if you just want digital stereo is use the toslink optical out and do what you do with the 360 running stereo output separately.

Also you can use any PlayStation composite AV analog cable on any generation PlayStation. Pick up a PS2 AV cable for < $5. PS3 outputs downmixed stereo audio over analog at all times , but you can enable/disable HDMI and optical in the system settings.

Projector side HDMI port probably isn't wired for audio at all.

Pulling analog stereo from a HDMI cable would require a receiver or a dedicated DAC which will probably cost as much as a cheap HDMI ready receiver. Same for toslink. Your best bet is just any standard Sony PS multi AV cable. You can pick them up at any used game store or flea market for < $5.

I actually did this when I had the PS3 hooked up to my computer screen. Had HDMI converted to DVI for video; and composite to stereo cable for audio. There's a setting for enabling the audio to run over the composite cable instead of HDMI.

thanks. Glad to know itll work the same as my 360. On a side note, just watched a few scenes from the dark kight rises without sound. I have had my projector for a while, but finally seeing something of that quality is amazing.

I encourage everyone here to go out and buy a projector, and build a 150" screen to watch movies/game on. Ill never get tired of it.
