PS3 as a transceiver? Logitech Z550

Hey guys,

I'm making a big purchase and need some quality help, hence Anandtech forums 🙂

I'm buying a Samsung LN46A650. I have a PS3 and the Z550's from Logitech.

What optical/HDMI cables do I need to turn this setup into a home theatre system?

Thanks!

Optical->Z-5500(I assume what you meant)

So...is the PS3 doing the decoding then? If all I need is optical from 550 to samsung and hdmi from PS3 to tv...
The Z-5500s have a decoder device. The PS3 is going to be spitting a DD-5.1 bitstream at them, which is "encoded".

Ok, so is splitting bad? Should I get an AMP to connect the PS3 and speakers to and then connect to the TV?

Any recommendations for a transceiver/amp?

Or can I just connect the optical from the Z550 to the PS3 and then hdmi from ps3 to tv?

He said spitting, not splitting. 😛

No splitting involved.
