PS3 and NAS drive questions

Now that the PS3 is hacked, it's only a matter of time before we can get native .mkv support. I plan to get a dedicated storage drive, instead of transcoding from my PC. And that would be a NAS drive, right? I know nothing on that subject.

What I want is to have an drive that my PS3 can read from, and my PC can write to. It will go to standby/sleep mode when not in use to save energy.

I have my PS3 across the room from my PC and is connected through ethernet to my router. File transfer speed is pretty freaking slow though ethernet, so what would be the best way to connect the devices?

What's a inexpensive NAS drive that can do this? I think 2 drive slots is enough.

The stock PS3 firmware will read USB-attached drives that are in FAT32 format, but not NTFS. FAT32 has a 4 GB file size limit, and hard drives can't be formatted by Windows you need to use a third-party utility.

You might want to wait to see what features any hacked media players offer before shopping for hardware. Maybe it will support NTFS, maybe it won't. Maybe NAS, maybe not.

The PS3 probably wont ever support NTFS, it's a bit late for that and they have to pay royalties which is why they never did so.
