PS3 and MP4's via the cdrom drive

I have a PS3 connected to my media server via wifi, too which it's location prevents me from running an ethernet cable to it. I'd like to play high quality MP4's with TrueHD encoded on them, but the bandwidth is too great for the wifi. Is it possible to burn the MP4 on a DVD (as just a normal file like you would for copying files onto another PC) and play it that way? Or can I put the MP4 on a USB drive and play it off of that on the PS3?

I think USB will work, but DVDs won't. If it's formatted correctly, you should be able to go to the video menu and press Triangle to have them show up.

I hate to be a contrarion, but the PS3 will play .mp4, .avi, .m2ts, .mpg and .divx when burned to a DVD. I used to do it all of the time.

doesn't the ps3 play content on hdd? just connect the hdd to the usb port with a usb hdd dock or external enclosure.

I gave this a shot and found out my 4.6G MP4 file was .6GB too big for fat32.
!#$^%@#$!$##$

I just burned a DVD with the MP4 and it played fine. Thx Bret.
