PS3 and Black Bars

I've got a 37 inch 1080P LCD tv. Its native resolution is 1920x1200. I just rented my first game from gamefly for my new Ps3, F1 Champion Racing. My Ps3 will be here tomorrow. I was wondering while playing the game will I have black bars on the top and bottom? Because my understand is 1080P is 1920x1080.

Are you sure it's not a 16:10 PC LCD? I always figured that the extra room allows for minimal but persistent controls while editing or watching video.

If your monitor has some sort of 1:1 display mode then it will use black bars.

If it does not it will remain stretched.

My monitor has no 1:1 but if I use Component cable @ 720p it will have black bars at top and bottom on my 16:10 monitor

If I use HDMI>DVI cable on the monitor it will stretch vertically but look far better than the component cable.

16:9 -> 16:10 distortion is not so bad to be honest

4:3 -> 16:9 is much much worse

My PS3 will be hooked up via HDMI. And my Vizio 37 inch has no 1:1 display mode. But its resolution is 1920x1200

Then you answered your question there, its most likely going to be stretched to 16:10 which won't look that bad
