PS3 8mb cache vs 16mb cache

i want to upgrade my HDD in my ps3, so i can put videos on there, at better quality

well ive come across some 16mb cache laptop hard drives

the highest one ive seen so far is 320. which is alotabotu 298gb


if anyone could throw some knowledge my way, or point me in that direction. that would be great.

i did read that the 16mb does make things alittle faster.but i have not found anything to back that up

More cache is always better. For speed though, RPM will probably make a bigger difference. Seagate has a 320gb Momentus that's 7200rpm and has 16mb cache for $90.

For that price, I wouldn't mind putting that in my laptop.

for sure.. id love to have 320 gb in my laptop.. i have a crappy 100gb thats down to 30gb.. hmm might have to buy 2

I would assume more RPM = More heat. Not really something I'd want in a console.

There is very, very little difference in heat/power characteristics between 5400 and 7200 RPM drives. 7200 RPM drives work just fine in the PS3, though they don't offer a huge performance advantage over the 5400 RPM models.

If I could only have one I'd put the 7200 in a laptop before the PS3, but at under $100 they're a cheap upgrade for either.

I see Newegg also has some 500gb 2.5'' drives around the $100 mark too. It's probably better to go for more storage over speed now that a lot of games require installs.

ill probaly get a 5400 for the ps3, and possibly a 7200 for the laptop. i would have to ghost the drive over though...
