I got my PS2 from amazon.com the first day it was available. Just recently though it stopped reading DVD's. (SSX Tricky or any DVD movies won't read) When I try to play a DVD it will just keep spinning and you can hear it trying to read it but nothing shows up on the screen. Is there anything I can do to try to fix it? PSX and audio cd's still work.

I've heard of this happening on early PS2 modle's, you need to get a replacement from sony.

Send it in for repair, and then bitch and scream until they comp it.

This is a not un-common proble with earlier PS2s.

Mine did the same thing. Turns out the lens was dirty. Buy a laser lens cleaning disc from BB or CC and see if it works. You can get 'em for around five bucks.

Yet another person screwed by Sony crap. Its a common problem they refuse to address and admit it is their own fault. This problem has resulted in MILLIONS of defective ps2's.

The only choices are to

A) pay Sony 120 to fix it
B) get a new PS2
C) get a gc or Xbox :D

Good

I've seen and experienced this problem first hand. After numerous problems with various Sony merch. it happens. If i come off as a Sony hater then fine because I wouldnt waste my money on another Sony product with such crappy service

If you want to pay Sony $120 to clean a dusty lens then suit yourself, but I hardly think its necessary. Its not like a dirty lens is a major mechanical defect. When your car needs an oil change, do you throw it away and buy a new car?

I agree that he should TRY what you suggested, but that doesn't mean it is going to fix his problem like it did yours.

5 little words for your next PS2 or for anyone thinking of buying one

Best Buy Product Replacement Plan.

No matter what people say about them it would cover it and you would get that $300 back.

Yeah, I know this thread is old, but you can't scream at me for reposting :p

Mine has also done this, but it will still read DVD Games, and some DVD's. It won't read Pearl Harbor, but it read Rush Hour. I guess i'll try cleaning it.
